JUST IN

Master Warrant Officer Jeffrey Evely (Ret'd) has lost the appeal on his conviction for mischief and obstruction in connection with entering a restricted area of Parliament Hill on February 19, 2022, to guard the National War Memorial.

Mr. Evely served in the Canadian Armed Forces for over two decades, completing successful tours in Afghanistan in 2009 and Iraq in 2019.

"We are disappointed with the court's decision today. We argued that police far exceeded their powers when performing blanket arrests on all civilians entering a restricted area. With respect to the court, I don't think Mr. Evely is a criminal. That cold February morning, I think he did what he had done overseas and over the course of his whole life: defend freedom and the symbols that remind us of it," said constitutional lawyer Chris Fleury.
