It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved Lord Edward. The young black prince has crossed the rainbow bridge to kitty heaven.

On Friday ,we saw a sudden decline in Edward, and rushed him to an emergency vet. Unfortunately his outlook was not survivable and we had to make the unfortunate decision to let the little guy go and be free of any further suffering.

I adopted ed believing he was a perfectly healthy little boy; very soon after coming home i realized some unusual things.

Edward was very lethargic, he just slept and was very passive, not so interested in playing or any of the typical crazy kitten behavior. I assumed he was shy after rehoming that he needed some time.

After a few days he seemed to perk up, come out of his shell and become more interested in things. However , it was maintained that he had been very frequently urinating and defecating outside of the litter box, much more often than I had ever experienced. He had a round pot belly that had been growing in size , became more firm to the touch as time progressed. At this time the calls to the vet began as I just wanted to be sure.

On Friday, all of the kitties and I spent the day on the Catio together. It was Ed’s first time being outside and he absolutely was in bliss . He was following me around, curious in everything I was doing , and settled under a ray of sun for a cat nap. His energy seemed to be a little better , but a shadow of his potential was only present. That evening, after having a meal and a large drink of water , Edward began walking oddly and then collapsed and was no longer able to support his own weight. Immediately we rushed him to an emergency vet where very quickly we realized his fate.

He was diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Periontis) - which is basically like a mutated kitty Covid . Sadly it is almost always fatal especially for an immunocomprimosed kitten. He was in a lot of pain and tried his best to keep it a secret from us. We loved every moment we could share in his week and it has been an incredibly difficult few days over here . We are all very sad. He will be honored in the Catio in days to come + a video or two. ❤️
