May 1st and still posting winter stuff ā„ļø

Had a great few days going for a walk up and across some stuff with .soul.ar_vagabond last weekend!

The weather was hot (H-O-T N-O G-O as Chapel Roan would say) but we had some fun, got some turns, stood on top of things and ate a bougie lunch by an ice cave.

Japan photo dump ā¤ļø

I realized I slacked on things making it out of the stories during my two weeks of travelling around with Julie, so here’s a dump of photos I think deserve a permanent home on the feed!

A compilation of a happy Josie with food + interesting things I ate in Japan

šŸ› The meal I ate most nights of the week, soup curry from one particular little spot. I’m glad Julie captured me with my favourite winter meal, I miss it so much šŸ˜‚

šŸ“ crunchy sugar glazed strawberries- they’re as sweet as you would imagine

🄪 egg on toast at a ho**ah bar for breakfast (we didn’t know it was a ho**ah bar when we went)

🧁frozen cake from a vending machine at the train platform

šŸ„žfluffy pancakes! Julie and I had these more than once

🄘 hot pot! $$ but worth it

šŸœ that time I forgot cheap doesn’t mean small portions

🐟 my favourite thing… taiyaki!

šŸ° the vending machine I bought my birthday cheesecake from

Some last last (šŸ˜‰) volcano pictures, this time without my weird head and just the pretty mountain.

In the second last picture, up to the right is where we hiked to get next to the crater!

ā€œWas it safe?ā€ Well, my theory was as long as I stayed back far enough that I didn’t fall in, it didn’t matter if I was 5 feet away or 500 meters… if the thing decided to erupt then it was game over either way šŸŒ‹

Spending so much time on volcanos gave me a great excuse to use my ā€œbaby duckā€ joke, which I’ll save for when you see me in person.

Do me a favour and visualize the tan line I have from wearing sunnies and a nun-esque buff every day. A new personal best on the yearly goggle tan for me.

Almost didn’t post this because I have a dinosaur head thanks to my hood… but I don’t think looking ā€œbadā€ should be a reason to not want to share one a picture of one of the coolest spots I’ve ever had the opportunity to stand.

It’s not every day I stand at the crater of a volcano, my dinosaur shaped head is simply in solidarity of the fossils that are probably somewhere around…. šŸ¦–

Ps shout out to the Austrian gals I had as guests for a week because they took my favourite pictures of myself all winter. The feminine energy was a great way to end my season.

A highlight of my winter was that I got to take my friends on their first ever ski tour!

Personally, getting to ski every day is only one perk of ski guiding. What really makes a day for me is getting to share it with people who are just stoked to be there. Being able to share the love with friends is really peak mountain experience for me.

Thanks for letting me take you guys uphill!

Swapped out the ski touring samosa for the ski touring onigiri šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

There’s slim to none when it comes to vegetarian onigiri selection, but this tofu pouch wrapped one from 7-eleven is 100% coming up the mountain with me when I find it.

Some other veggie options you often see are salted, kelp, soy sauce, and pickled plum. Roe is also common, depending on which kind of eggs you consider vegetarian.

The only thing that makes onigiri better is if it’s half frozen out of a backpack šŸ¤™šŸ¼

Took myself on a little solo trip!

After the guiding work winded down I went away for a few days to have some time alone and take the opportunity to learn about Ainu history, flora and fauna of Japan, and see somewhere different.

I have been in Japan for a few months, but only in the same 2 hour radius of the town I live in. I’ve become comfortable in my little bubble, and going outside of it really made me feel like I am in another country.

It was also fun to take public transit for the first time in Japan, public transportation has never been a part of my daily life and it’s only something I do when I travel. So that was also a fun little brain challenge. I thrive when I’m organized and in control, busses take that away from me.

Also sleeping in a queen bed after months in a twin was 10/10

Somehow I’ve managed to not fall in a creek (yet)

There’s a lot of thermal activity in Japan, which means the water is sometimes warmer than you might expect.

Out of curiosity, I have stuck my hand in a creek or two to test the temp and it’s not bath water, but it’s also not ice cold.

Regardless of temp… I’m still hoping I stay out of them.
