HIRING: Senior Full Stack Lead (Java, React/Angular, AWS/GCP)

About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack Lead to architect, build, and lead the development of highly scalable, cloud-native applications powering large-scale streaming experiences. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with system architecture, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver resilient, high-performance products used by thousands to millions of users.

As a technical leader, you will drive engineering excellence across backend services, frontend applications, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines while mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of scalable, distributed full-stack applications.
- Architect and build microservices using Java 17/21 and Spring Boot 3.x.
- Develop modern web applications using React or Angular with TypeScript.
- Design RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures for high-throughput applications.
- Build and optimize systems capable of supporting large-scale live and on-demand video streaming workloads.
- Design cloud-native solutions on AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Collaborate with Product, UX, DevOps, QA, and Engineering leadership to deliver high-quality features.
- Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design sessions.
- Mentor and coach software engineers while promoting engineering best practices.
- Improve system reliability, scalability, security, observability, and performance.
- Drive CI/CD automation and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Participate in production support and incident response for mission-critical services.

Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 3+ years in a technical lead or engineering lead role.
- Expert-level Java development experience.
- Strong expertise with Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data, - and REST API development.
- Extensive experience building frontend applications using React or Angular.
- Strong knowledge of TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS.
- Experience designing scalable microservices and distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Experience with NoSQL databases is an asset.
- Familiarity with messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Pub/Sub.
- Strong understanding of authentication and authorization (OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect).
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building or operating OTT, media, or streaming platforms.
- Experience with HLS, MPEG-DASH, adaptive bitrate streaming, or video delivery architectures.
- Familiarity with CDNs, media processing pipelines, DRM, and content protection.
- Experience with API Gateways and service mesh technologies.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or OpenTelemetry.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Understanding of high-availability and disaster recovery architectures.

About Animal Place
Animal Place is an original animated television series entering proof-of-concept production to test its visual identity, character performance, camera approach, and technical workflow before moving into larger-scale production. The project marries expressive 2D character animation with painterly layered environments, cinematic camera movement, and multiplane scene construction.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Toon Boom Harmony Animator & Scene Assembly Artist to build, animate, and technically engineer our proof-of-concept sequence. This unique role requires an equal balance of artistic acting sensitivity and deep pipeline problem-solving. You will turn approved storyboards, dialogue tracks, and layered environmental art into beautifully performing, stable production scenes.

Key Responsibilities & Required Skills
* Character Animation Performance: Deliver premium-quality, dialogue-driven performances for characters, showcasing mastery over posing, timing, weight, and emotional expression.
* Technical Rig Manipulation: Work fluidly within a hybrid workflow (rigged, hand-drawn, or hand-drawn breakdowns over rigs). Modify, extend, and repair existing character rigs, deformers, and drawing substitutions on the fly to meet performance requirements.
* Cinematic Staging & Camera Physics: Build multiplane scenes using layered background paintings. Design and execute complex camera movements and multiplane parallax while strictly maintaining correct perspective, scale, and character eyelines.
* Pipeline Infrastructure & Node Management: Organize complex project environments using clean Node View hierarchies and coloured backdrops. Troubleshoot technical scene issues involving pegs, layers, and cameras independently.
* Handoff & Render Optimization: Optimize scene files for rendering efficiency and stability. Isolate elements and prepare clean Harmony packages for seamless delivery to the compositor.

Nice-to-Have Skills
* Advanced Harmony compositing or temporary effects/lighting setup experience.
* Prior experience on premium cinematic television or feature animation projects.
* Familiarity with Blender or bridging simple 3D asset integration into 2D spaces.

Expected Deliverables
* Fully optimized, organized Toon Boom Harmony project files with clean Node Views.
* Final character animation passes with completed acting, dialogue synchronization, and revisions.
* Assembled multiplane layout spaces featuring integrated background artwork and animated camera pegs.
* Final render-ready source files packaged for post-production compositing handoff.

We want the series to feel painterly, emotionally rich, atmospheric, dimensional, and cinematic—inspired by the environmental depth and lighting of productions like The Legend of Korra, without directly copying an existing style.

The Role:
We are seeking a remote Environment & Look Development Artist to establish and execute the visual atmosphere of this test sequence. This is a production-minded role: you will carry early visual development through to final, production-ready background paintings, delivering organized, layered assets optimized for assembly and animation in Toon Boom Harmony.

Key Responsibilities & Required Skills:
* Visual Development & Look Dev: Establish the sequence's environmental look using mood boards, colour studies, and lighting explorations. A strong portfolio showing exceptional digital painting with atmospheric perspective is required.
* Cinematic Layouts: Translate storyboard requirements into compositions that masterfully apply perspective, scale, and spatial design to drive emotion.
* Production Background Painting: Deliver final, premium-quality background paintings separated into logical, clean layers (foreground, midground, background, sky, and atmosphere elements) for multiplane parallax camera movement.
* Pipeline Integration: Highly proficient in Toon Boom Harmony (required) or expert-level digital painting software (Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or Procreate) with a proven ability to supply pristine, meticulously organized, and named layered files specifically formatted for immediate Harmony pipeline integration.
* Collaboration & Delivery: Work closely with the Creative Director and pipeline team, implement feedback constructively across revisions, and meet strict production deadlines.

Nice-to-Have Skills
* Advanced experience creating complex assets specifically for Toon Boom Harmony multiplane setups.
* Experience utilizing Blender or alternative 3D software for layout, perspective, or composition guides.
* Prior experience on premium television animation, feature animation, or cinematic game projects.

Expected Deliverables
* Sequence mood boards and color/lighting studies.
* Final production background paintings with logically separated layers.
* Harmony-ready asset files with technical notes mapping out intended parallax and atmospheric treatment.
* A concise sequence look guide documenting finalized colour, lighting, and environmental styles.
