Entering the last week of June with a poem by Dag T. StraumsvĂĽg from The Mountains of Kong: New and Selected Prose Poems, in English and Nynorsk:

June

They stand before the priest, never happier or more heroic than at this moment. The bride spots a fly crawling across the nose of the crucified Jesus and sneezes before she can answer. A mother stares at her child and can’t remember the father. Across the street, a man balances on a stool and washes his store window. A motorcycle cruises by. The priest looks up. There’s a light drizzle. Good weather for fishing, he thinks. He likes to fish, likes to stay out all day, even in the wind and pouring rain, even if the lake is empty. Out there, fishing, everything is of interest. Minnows, an old boot, the bottom.

Juni

Regn i lufta.

We’re still over the moon that Assembly’s first title was able to document so many of the incredible people making great things in our community - hearty thanks to everyone who talked to us, to for making it all happen, and for the assist.

We’re also super grateful to everyone who has picked up a copy so far. Thank you!

And don’t forget to visit all the hot spots listed in the book - you can find a map to them at a link in our bio.

✨Cover reveal ✨for The Orange Notebooks by Susanna Crossman

“The patient’s breakdown was triggered by the death of her son, Louis. In her accompanying letter, Anna writes Lou’s death was time—there was a before and an after… The notebooks document her four months at the hospital, but also her relationship with Louis’s father, a record of a bright life between London and France, crossing the Channel, a liquid bridge, and the journey she took in June 2013 with another patient. The latter was part of Anna’s delusional conviction that she would meet her son again. She entered what she called an upside-down world, and went to rescue Louis, thinking she could put the world back the right way up.”

Spring has barely sprung, but we can’t resist sharing a sneak peek of what we’re working on for fall 2025:

📣 The Orange Notebooks (September 2): Told through a mother’s journals written while interned in a French psychiatric ward, Susanna Crossman’s English-language fiction debut is a novel about love, and the lost language and rituals of mourning.

📣 Goose (October 7): Melanie Dennis Unrau’s latest poetry collection retraces unconscious lines of thought and flight to write a new history of Alberta’s tar sands, using S.C. Ells’s Northland Trails as a source text.

📣 Letters of Marshall McLuhan (Nov 4): A selection of enlightening correspondence from the originator of “The Medium Is the Message,” available for the first time in over 25 years.
