What a view! 😍

While I’ve climbed Sigiriya a number of times, I’ve never seen it like this before! The climb up Pidurangala Rock was well worth it.

100% recommend!

One of my favourite photos from the vegan camp out at last weekend.

Both the photo itself and the memory it captured make this one extra special.

There’s nothing quite like sitting by a campfire on a warm night, with good company, and the sky lit up with stars 😍

How blessed are we to be on this beautiful planet! It’s easy to forget that as we go about our daily lives.

I hope you take a moment to stop and smell the roses (or the campfire!) and enjoy this day!

My heart is so full! 💛 Thank you to everyone who came along to our vegan potluck picnic in the park!

It was wonderful to catch up with friends and make new ones over a delicious vegan and alcohol-free spread! Despite the forecasted ~40 degree weather (thanks Melbourne! 😅) we had a great turnout.

A special shoutout to those who came along without knowing anyone beforehand. It can take courage to do that, and I’m so glad you joined us and formed new connections 😊

It was also great to have non-vegans joining us as well. It’s exciting being able to share how we can enjoy delicious meals while still being kind to animals 💛

A massive thank you to Tebs and Alex for the super fun impromptu jam session!

Thank you also to Guilherme for the location suggestion! For anyone planning a picnic, Yarra Bend Park is a great spot with multiple undercover picnic areas, BBQs, bathrooms, playgrounds, car parking, river views, bats, and plenty of walking tracks to explore!

I love that the event continued until well after midnight! (Swipe to the end for our survivor’s photo!).

It was such a wonderful afternoon filled with delicious food, games, music, good vibes, and great company! Thank you all for being the lovely humans that you are and for helping make it so special 💛

Note: I was organising another event for this coming weekend. However, there is a working bee at on Sat 1st Feb. A group of us are going to that instead - and we would love for you to join us! Just fill in the volunteer application form (link below) and the friendly team at Liberation Sanctuary will be in touch. This working bee also includes an optional overnight campout as well! Hope to see you all there so we can have fun hanging out together whilst also helping the animals and the team at Liberation Sanctuary! 😊

Wishing you all a wonderful day and hope to see you all soon!

We have family friends staying with us at the moment who just moved here from Sri Lanka. It was the husband’s birthday today, and the wife bought a cake to celebrate his special day.

Imagine my absolute shock and delight when I learned that she had bought a vegan cake! The couple isn’t vegan. In fact, they probably hadn’t heard of the term ‘vegan’ until they arrived at our house.

Despite this, this kind soul went out of her way to buy a cake that ALL of us could eat 🥹. Not a separate option for the vegan to eat while everyone else shared the birthday cake (which is still a nice gesture - but it also implies that there is something inferior about vegan food and that it isn’t good enough for everyone to eat. As if a cake that is made with kindness and doesn’t include animal secretions/animal cruelty couldn’t possibly taste good!).

Instead, the actual birthday cake that she bought was vegan so we could all eat it together 💛

It might sound like a small thing. It’s just cake right?! But it’s actually a really big deal.

Honestly, sometimes being vegan can be really hard.

Not in terms of figuring out how to get enough protein so we don’t die, or wondering what we would eat if we were stranded on a deserted island with just a pig (or whatever else non-vegans seem to always question us about and think our biggest issues are! 😅)

Dealing with this type of thing is what’s hard.

The lack of inclusivity. The social rejection. The isolation. Feeling like we are being a bother or a burden. Trying to celebrate special events with loved ones whilst simultaneously having to ignore the table covered in death and suffering. Constantly having to explain our views or justify why we live the way we live. That, despite us doing something purely out of kindness for others - we STILL seem to have to justify and explain why we do what we do. (As if not killing, harming, and causing other living beings to suffer isn’t reason enough! 🤷🏽‍♀️ 🤦🏽‍♀️). It’s exhausting and painful and it only serves to further isolate us from the rest of our family and friends as it’s constantly reinforced that we are different from everyone else.
