I wasn't able to attend the awards ceremony on the mainland this week. But it was lovely to get this note in my inbox nonetheless.

Hey all. Should you find yourself searching for a great TV series to dig into...consider 'Dept. Q'. 📺 🔎

And if you've watched something excellent of late, recommendations welcome here too!

A brash but brilliant cop becomes head of a new police department, where he leads an unlikely team of misfits in solving Edinburgh's cold cases.

Hey folks. After I finished work on S7 of Island Crime-Ian Indridson's story, I spent some time updating earlier seasons, trying to see if I could push investigations further ahead. I also began researching my new season. This is a brief note to let you know that I'm now focused on S8, another unsolved homicide on Vancouver Island. Unless something urgent happens on my cases, I'll be quietly chipping away with a goal of releasing S8 later this fall. Stay safe out there. lp

Lauren was a guest on Island Crime a while back. She is keen to help solve some Vancouver Island mysteries ...

Solving genealogy mysteries has become a bit of an obsession for Lauren Robilliard, who's helped hundreds of people track down biological family members. For this self-taught "super sleuth," it all started when she was a young girl who knew she was adopted, and wanting to find answers about who she is.

Hear about Lauren's journey to find her biological parents, and how it led her to become a professional genetic genealogist on the "Mind your business!" episode of the Now or Never podcast that originally aired February 2025 - https://link.chtbl.com/dqM832PO

Amber Manthorne should be waking up on this breathtaking Port Alberni summer morning...perhaps planning a day on the lake with her many friends. Instead, she is forever frozen at 40, taken from those who love her three years ago today. I find it hard to believe Justin Hall didn't tell anyone what happened on their last night together. Know something? Please say something. If you can't safely speak with the police, then talk to me: [email protected]

*This photo of Amber always makes me smile. She looks so happy, in control and healthy on the lake she adored. 💔

I attended the annual March for Justice and concert for Lisa Marie Young yesterday. Here are a few scenes that will remain with me for a good long while.

Lisa's grandpa Moses stretched out on the grass surrounded by family, taking it all in.

Lisa's brother Brian hugging a member of the Island Harmony A Capella women's choir after their gorgeous rendition of 'Forever Young'

Lisa's father Don listening to the music while chatting with Mayor Krog.

RCMP Constable Hayley Pinfold playing tag in the parking lot with Lisa's foster sister's small children.

Lisa's friend and advocate Cyndy Hall & I were gifted Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation names at the event. I didn't see that coming. It's the honour of a lifetime. I have much to be grateful for & a lot to live up to.

An event born out of the horror of losing Lisa brings so much comfort and joy. It's just a beautiful thing to behold each year. And yet with everything in me, I hope this year will be the last.

It is not an island crime, but it is quite the tale from Eve Lazarus!

It is not an island crime, but it is quite the tale from Eve Lazarus!

Vancouver Sun cartoonist Roy Peterson was sent to Penticton to cover Ann Spiller's trial for stealing nearly half a million dollars from the Royal Bank between 1963 and 1968. She was 26 went she was sent to prison for three years and received another three years after her appeal, but ended up serving only two. While there, she was allowed out on day parole to study for a degree in sociology.

This Sunday, June 29th, Lisa Marie Young's family & friends will march for justice from the RCMP station in Nanaimo at aprox 11am. Speeches and music in Maffeo Sutton Park at about noon. We've come to call the event 'Forever Young', because Lisa never made it past 21 years old. Please support Lisa's people as they mark the anniversary of her disappearance on the 2002 Canada Day weekend 🙏 See you there. ✊🏼
