At the 1973 Academy Awards, Sacheen Littlefeather refused the Academy Award for Best Actor on behalf of Marlon Brando who won for his role in The Godfather. She carried a letter from Brando in which he explains he refused the award in protest of American treatment of the Native Americans.

In this interview afterward, Brandon explained his position and why he had taken such a view.

Non-spiritually minded people will not get any of this, but "being religious" is not such a bad thing, considering the following statistics about the world's population: Christians—2.2 billion followers (representing 31.5% of the world's population) Muslims—1.6 billion (23.2%) Non-religious people—1.1 billion (16.3%) Hindus—1 billion (15.0%). Not only that, Jerusalem is the center of the "religious" world.

The truth is not everyone is going to be right about what some cultures would call the "after life", and it is this writer's opinion that it is your responsibility as an individual to establish your own spiritual or religious beliefs. It is not anyone else's responsibility, it is your responsibility, as an individual before God, if there is such a thing.

The Edmonton Royal Museum offers free admission to First Nation People. I recommend everyone go at least once to visit their exhibits. There are informative exhibits that will clearly educate you on a wide variety of history and even political issues.

For those families in the Edmonton area who meet a certain financial criteria, there are grants available through programs like "Jump start".

To be eligible for funding for one or more children, families must first meet specific financial criteria as per Revenue Canada’s Low-Income Cut-Offs (LICO) chart. Jumpstart uses the furthest column to the right of the chart for eligibility.

Don't let your children miss out on such exceptional opportunities like this. He or she could be involved in a sport of their liking and choosing.

Jumpstart Individual Child Grants assist families in financial need with the costs of enrolling their child/children in sport and recreation activities.

Personally I had no comfort cookie, or someone to run to. I am and always alone in most of the struggles I have had. I learned however to keep breathing, assess the situation, plot the next course, take the next step, and keep moving. I learned to take the nest step, one after the other, one tired fumbling step at a time. I learned to keep going, no matter what. This is the making of a quality you can call "tenacity."
