On Thursday October 9th, at approximately 0450hrs, Edson Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 4300 block of 1 Avenue in Edson.

EFD was attending another call at the time of dispatch and quickly redirected resources to the fire. The first unit arrived at the fire in four minutes after the dispatch was received, finding a heavily involved commercial building with fire self-venting through the roof. Crews laid multiple supply lines and controlled the fire through use of apparatus mounted master streams, portable master streams, and handlines. The fire was quickly brought under control, but due to the nature of the content loading, an extensive overhaul took several hours to complete extinguishment. While attending this call, crews also responded to an unrelated motor vehicle collision, and another unrelated fire alarms ringing call.

EFD responded with two engines, a heavy rescue, and two command units. EFD was supported as well by RCMP, EMS, ATCO, and Fortis. The fire is currently under investigation, and a third-party investigator is on-site working with EFD and RCMP.

In addition, we would like to emphasize that motorists should NEVER drive over a hose line at a fire scene. During the incident, a passenger vehicle drove over a supply line during the fire, risking cutting off water supply, endangering firefighters, damaging equipment, and impairing our ability to intervene at the fire. Fortunately, this occurrence did not result in a damaged supply line.
