It's always fun being in the studio with a group of musicians who are all on the same page and who are all focused on the process, and these guys were exactly that. From the first day of drum tracking to the last minute of our booking where we were still laying down harmonies, this band was fully immersed in a creative zone.

Sometimes adding a mandolin to a song is exactly what the song needs.

Other times, taking the mandolin out of a song is exactly what it needs.

In yesterdays case adding a mandolin then taking a bunch of it away was exactly what the song needed

Side note: neither of us really play the mandolin

First day of tracking with yesterday!

The drum room is coming together up at Bill’s place!

We spent today exploring the tonal options in his drum room through mic placement and absorption panel placement and we got some pretty rad sounds in the process. I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth those overhead mics sounded!

Had a pre production meeting with today and surprise surprise I forgot to get a picture while it was happening. Here’s a symbolic picture of a notepad and a console instead.

I finally got the opportunity to head to and meet Jon in person! It’s always fun to get together with fellow audio nerds to look at things with k***s and say “yeah dude”

Here’s a throwback to one of the bass days while recording the latest record, Ancients. There was an awesome moment when recording the bass solo from Possum Pendulum when Andrew first hit the 8th note run halfway through his solo and everyone in the room erupted!
