Get to know some of the hardware we have at Blue Light Studio!
This is our AKG BX10 which is a spring reverb unit originally built in Austria by AKG in the 1960s.
It was designed to simulate the natural reverb of large spaces (like a hall or room). Inside the BX10 are coiled metal springs, just like what you’d find in a mattress or trampoline. The vibration travels through the spring and gets picked up by a second transducer (like a mini microphone) at the other end. Because the springs wiggle and bounce, the sound gets stretched out in time creating reverb.
We use this analog spring reverb to add warmth and space to sound giving it a vintage feel.
