Shoe history, but make it fun. We explored three exhibits at the Bata Shoe Museum: the roots of shoe design across cultures, the rise (and reinventions) of the cowboy boot, and a Street Shoes collab collection that blends art, fashion, and community.

Tips for visiting:
👟 Give yourself about an hour to explore all four floors — it’s the perfect size for an afternoon visit.
🅿️ There’s convenient parking right across the street.
🏛️ The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is just a short walk away, so you can easily pair both museums in one outing.
☕ Bonus: Plenty of cafés and spots to grab a bite nearby if you need a post-museum recharge.

If you love churches, Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal will take your breath away. The soaring ceilings, intricate details, and rich history make it so much more than just a building - it feels like stepping into a piece of living art. Every corner tells a story, and as someone who admires architecture, I could have stayed for hours just taking it all in.

Ottawa. The capital city here in Canada. This was our first visit and definitely not our last. Beautiful, walkable city with lots of shopping, dining and ways to learn about our country’s history.

Our visit to the Canadian Museum of History offered an incredible look at Canada’s story 🇨🇦. From the traditions and artistry of the First Nations to the shaping of our sovereignty under British influence, the exhibits paint a vivid picture of how our country came to be. As a bonus, the museum is currently hosting a special retro exhibit that nods to Canadian music artists from the 60s, 70s, and 80s - a highlight for my son.

We used our Ottawa Museum Pass to check out the Diefenbunker, and it ended up being one of the most fascinating stops. We made sure to arrive right at opening at 10 a.m., which turned out to be the perfect choice - there were far fewer people, giving us a chance to really take in the blast tunnel, Prime Minister’s Suite, and war rooms without feeling rushed. It was an incredible way to step back in time and explore a hidden piece of Cold War history just outside Ottawa.

Webster’s Falls is one of Hamilton’s most popular spots. Located in Spencer Gorge Conservation Area, it’s easy to see why. With a large parking lot (fee applies), picnic areas, a covered pavilion, and stone bridges that add to the charm, it’s perfect for a family day out.

✨ The falls are just a short walk from the parking area, with good viewing platforms (though the gorge itself is fenced off for safety). Fall and winter are the best times to visit when the leaves don’t block the view of the cascading water. Right now, trees and leaves do hide part of the lower tier, but the surrounding trails and river that feeds the falls make it worth the trip.

💡 Pro tip: Your parking ticket is also valid at other Hamilton Conservation Areas the same day, so you can make a full day of exploring!

Tiffany Falls is a 21-metre cascade tucked inside a peaceful forest—and it’s just a short walk from the parking lot! Since my boys were little this has been a favorite of ours to visit year round.

✨ Tips for visiting:

Arrive early—parking is limited (about 15 spots).

Parking is $11.50, but your ticket is valid all day at other Hamilton Conservation Areas.

The trail is short, easy, and family-friendly.

Water flow changes with the seasons (it may be a trickle in summer heat).

Prefer not to climb over rocks? There’s an observation deck with a great view.
