✨Exploring Mi’kma’ki✨
I’m excited to introduce my new series, Exploring Mi’kma’ki. Throughout the spring/summer I will be visiting different locations on the Tan Weji-sqalia tiek: Mikmaw Place
Names Digital Atlas Map, and showcasing their beauty. There are so many places that hold pre-colonial connections, and It is so important to share them.
A bit about the map: “The Mi'kmaq Place Names Digital Atlas is a digital map that documents the history and significance of Mi'kmaq place names in Mi'kma'ki (present-day Nova Scotia and surrounding areas). It features over 1,000 place names, their etymology, Mi'kmaq language translations, and additional information like photos and videos from interviews with Mi'kmaq Elders. The atlas is a collaborative project between the Tripartite Forum, Mi'kmawey Debert Cultural Centre, and others.”
I’m so excited to explore Mi’kma’ki, and expand my knowledge about our land. 🤎
