Last month we wrapped our work on this years season. Broadcasting 10+ games throughout the entire season, we are incredibly proud of our crew for putting together such a strong show all season long.

Our relationship with the Rebels and the goes back to 2018, and we couldn’t be happier to be continuing it to this day!

We will miss Mike deeply — his professionalism, his humour, and his friendship. We will always be profoundly grateful for the light and strength he brought to our community.

You may have heard that we lost our beloved founder Mike Walker, aged 37, after a brave and long battle with brain cancer. He passed away at home in the early hours of Saturday, October 4 with Amanda and his friends Owen and Tara by his side.

Born on June 24, 1988, in Victoria, BC, Mike had a kindness, passion, and smile that filled every room, newsroom, broadcast booth, or baseball diamond he entered.

Mike was a staple in Victoria’s broadcast journalism and live sports communities from a young age. After completing the Broadcast Journalism program at BCIT in 2010, Mike returned to his hometown and brought his infectious smile to living rooms across Vancouver Island covering news and sports for CHEK. His love for local sports and storytelling came together through his work, whether on the sidelines, in the press box, in front of or behind the camera.

Together with Amanda whom he met at BCIT, he co-founded Roll.Focus. in 2015, building an award-winning company rooted in creativity, community, and storytelling. Through his work, Mike touched countless lives – capturing stories, amplifying voices, and celebrating the moments that bring people together.

Above all, Mike adored his wife, Mandy (Amanda), a best friend and partner in every sense. From European getaways to tending to the vegetable garden at home, Mike was always happiest when he was with Amanda. He truly cherished their life and adventures – big or small – with their dog Barbosa in tow. He is survived by his loving parents, Marilyn and Ron; his sisters, Jacquie (Tim), Kathy (Myles), and Cheryl (Jenn); his parents-in-law, Wendy and Bob Eyolfson, sisters-in-law Jen (Brad) and Kim; his nieces and nephews Emma, Bryn, Jack, Anna, Rosie & Ben; and his beloved Victoria Seals
and Anchormen.

Mike faced cancer with the same resolve, positivity, and unrelenting smile that defined his life. He met the challenge with courage and grace, too — never losing his warmth, his hope, or his love for the people around him. He was an inspiration to all those who knew him, maintaining his sharp wit and endless Trivial Pursuit knowledge until the end.

Mike’s legacy lives on in the stories he helped to tell, the love he so generously gave, and the countless people who were lucky enough to call him a friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the BC Cancer Foundation or Victoria Hospice, supporting vital research and care for others facing similar battles.
