Welcome to the Canadian Vertical Film Festival (CVFF) — Showcasing the best vertical cinema and creative storytelling in Canada.

CVFF is a Canadian based festival dedicated to the art of vertical filmmaking — showcasing everything from short-form dramas and fast-paced narratives to vertical series and bold cinematic experiments created for the 9:16 era. It’s a celebration of emotional, boundary-pushing work made for today’s screens.

Our mission is to spotlight innovation in storytelling in all genres and to recognize filmmakers who are reshaping how audiences experience motion and emotion in vertical format.

Screening events will take place exclusively on the beautiful Vancouver Island, with filmmakers and guests gathering in person to experience this new wave of vertical cinema. Submissions are welcome from across Canada, inviting creators from coast to coast to be part of this new creative movement.

The festival is powered by a passionate film community — producers, cinematographers, and storytellers who believe the vertical frame isn’t a limitation, it’s an opportunity for growth and creativity.

Whether you’re an emerging creator or an experienced filmmaker exploring new mediums, CVFF is your stage to showcase originality, artistry, and vertical vision.

This is BIG NEWS!! šŸ“°

Netflix is buying Warner Bros. in an $82.7 billion deal and says it expects ā€œto maintain the studio's current operations,ā€ including theatrical releases for movies.

In the near term, Netflix signaled it would keep HBO Max as its own service, while it also touted the addition of HBO and HBO Max content to its lineup.

ā€œBy adding the deep film and TV libraries and HBO and HBO Max programming, Netflix members will have even more high-quality titles from which to choose,ā€ the company said. ā€œThis also allows Netflix to optimize its plans for consumers, enhancing viewing options and expanding access to content.ā€

I’ve been working on this myself lately. So far I have found that a simple message, aimed at the right people, will always win.

Understand the problem they have.
Speak to it directly.
Cut everything else out.

Less noise. More clarity.

This year, we helped raise over $1.4 million for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation & Digital Lab. šŸ™Œ

We’re so proud to have played a part in making that happen — teaming up once again with Peninsula Gives to support such an incredible cause.

For the past three years, Volare Media has proudly sponsored this event… and every year, it keeps getting better, raising more awareness and funds.

A huge thank you to for trusting us again with this meaningful project — it’s always such an honour to collaborate with your team. Also & you are both rockstars, keep being awesome! šŸ‘

And of course, massive shoutout to our crew:
šŸŽ¬ Director – Jackie Taylor
šŸ’” Gaffer/Grip – Nico Wainer
šŸŽ§ Sound Mixer – Dave Goossen
Biggest thanks to Dave Goossen, who put so much time and heart into our productions this year (even though he couldn’t make it to event night) — we appreciate you so much.

It’s a real privilege to do what we love — sharing stories through video that truly make a difference ā¤ļø

Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned.
You don’t win, or something you really wanted just doesn’t line up.

It stings. It’s easy to sit there and dwell on it — to wonder why?

But here’s the thing… you’ve got a choice.
You can sit and cry about it, or you can get back to work.

Brush it off. Look around at the amazing people who believe in you, who support you, who keep showing up.

Because the only way to really lose… is if you quit.

Let’s go 🤘😜

šŸŽ¬šŸŽ„ Back at it!!

We’re diving back into our long-term project ā€œBuilt to Skaleā€ — a locally funded web series that blends comedy, drama, adventure… and yes, a whole lot of construction. šŸ—ļø

The story follows a first-time developer tackling big dreams, unexpected snags, and plenty of lessons learned along the way. It’s a ride filled with laughs, challenges, and heart — and we can’t wait to share more of the journey with you.

With our writer & director Jackie Taylor at the helm, you’ll definitely be left wondering what could possibly happen next.

šŸ‘‰ Want to get involved? We’re always open to connecting with local creatives. DM us if you’d like to be part of the project! (Most of our positions are filled, and it’s a small, low-budget crew — but it’s a fun one with an awesome team.)

More updates, sneak peeks, and behind-the-scenes moments coming soon! šŸš€

Exciting News from Vancouver Island!

I’m thrilled to share that a fantastic service production company in VICTORIA BC is getting closer to their first-ever vertical series. They’re moving into development on a summer drama set at the beach, and it’s been incredible to watch them lean into this new format with so much enthusiasm.

They’re currently organizing a table read in July in Victoria and are looking for local actors who might be interested in participating in a VERTICAL TABLE READ of their script.

Table reads are a WONDERFUL opportunity to connect with a growing team, practice cold reads, and get a feel for how vertical stories flow on the page.

If you’re physically located in Victoria and would like to volunteer to read at this first table read, please fill out the form below.

This is a great low-pressure way to meet the team and be part of the early stages of something exciting:

JUST A NOTE ABOUT PAY: these are independent filmmakers who have been working incredibly hard to get to this stage.

When their first vertical project moves into production, all roles will be paid. I trust this group tremendously—they’ve listened carefully to every piece of guidance I’ve shared, and it’s been really meaningful to see how committed they are to doing things the right way from the very beginning.

I know a lot of Victoria-based talent has already been making the trek across on the ferry to join vertical projects on the mainland—and I’m so happy that soon, they'll be able to participate just a short drive from home. It’s a big step forward for regional access, and I couldn’t be more excited to see this format continue expanding across BC.

Very excited to see more local crews leaning into verticals!
