This groundbreaking exhibition celebrates the incredible 50-year career of Haida master artist Christian White, featuring his breathtaking argillite carvings, wood masks, jewelry, and even monumental works like the 52-foot canoe Tluuwée Kwiiyaas! 🛶

Curated by fellow Haida artist Sdahl Ḵ'awaas (Lucy Bell), the exhibition highlights Christian’s lifelong dedication to preserving Haida art, language, and traditions. His work is deeply rooted in cultural storytelling and craftsmanship passed down through generations.

From History Facts Mailing List: the term RADAR was originally coined as an acronym that stood for “radio detection and ranging,” but like certain other acronyms it eventually came to be treated as an uncapitalized common noun. This is an example of an anacronym, which occurs when an acronym is used so often as to become a word itself. Other examples include laser (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation), scuba (self-contained underwater breathing apparatus), and taser (Thomas A. Swift’s electric rifle) — all of which, perhaps not coincidentally, were novel technologies that proved so successful, they became a part of everyday life.

Went to the Annex, just around the corner from the Orpheum, and watched „Floating Island“ inspired by Dorothy Wordsworth, presented by Opera Unbound. It included singing, dancing and sound effects of the ocean recorded by the very places in the UK that Dorothy might have walked with her brother William, a famous poet. Such a short, yet so very creative show!

Another thing bringing Canada and Germany together: EUREKA. From 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, Canada and Germany will co-chair Eureka. For the first time since its foundation in 1985, two countries will jointly lead the world’s largest network for technological innovation. On top of this, the Research & Innovation Summit 2025, co-chaired by Germany and the National Research Council Canada, will be held in cooperation with HANNOVER MESSE. This unique partnership combines the world’s leading trade fair for industry with Germany’s premier forum for networking in research and innovation. Life is a constant sea of change

Das Schwarze Brett had a good run, but for 2019, it is time to make some changes. Feedback from a variety of people showed that using the term “The Black Board” was not working for them and that I should think about changing the name.

In a business sense, the magazine was a good idea, but it needed some tweaking. So, European News” was born. From now on, the magazine I create will be called “European News” and the website is www.europeannews.ca.

The new website has allowed me to create a media page that I can use to bring the German Community together. You can now put up classifieds: birthdays, obituaries, wedding announcements, birth announcements etc. You can share things that you are trying to sell or give away for free. You can also learn all about the European Community in western Canada.

My goal is to connect with the 24 EU countries, other countries in Europe and report on how CETA, Brexit and political changes are sharing Europe, but mostly how Europeans are shaping Canada.
