A Ride to Remember: Trail Adventures on Mt. Makiling (2021)

Let me take you back to a sunny, beautiful morning in 2021 a day that still brings a smile to my face. This was no ordinary day. It was the day my son and I were going on a trail ride together his first major ride and we were both buzzing with excitement.

We consider it a major trail because the route takes almost the entire day to complete. After a hearty breakfast, we geared up and prepped our motorcycles my son on his Kawasaki KMX and me on my Kawasaki KX. The morning air was cool and fresh, the perfect start for what was going to be a long, challenging ride.

Our first stop was the gas station, where we waited for our friends. The rest of the group, our fellow trail riders, were gathered at Didoy’s house in Los Baños. Once we were all assembled, we headed straight to the trail site.

You could feel the energy among us as our tires hit the rough terrain. The trail was no joke, mud, dust, rocks, steep climbs, and sharp descents greeted us almost immediately. But that’s what we came for. That’s the thrill of it.

Thankfully, we came prepared: water bladders, itlog na nilaga (boiled eggs), and saging (bananas) kept us going. There were moments when you’d feel your energy dip, but a quick stop to eat and hydrate gave us the boost we needed to keep pushing forward.

The photo I’m sharing was taken at the top of Balete Hill Climb. It captures not just the view, but the feeling of accomplishment and camaraderie among us.

What I love most about trail riding is the people you meet. On that trail, we were a mix of everything, doctors, businessmen, students, mechanics, young riders, older guys, different walks of life, united by one passion. But on the trail, titles don’t matter. Everyone looks out for each other. We ride together, and we finish together.

That day on Mt. Makiling wasn’t just a ride it was a memory I’ll always treasure, especially sharing it with my son and friends. Until the next adventure!

A Ride Back in Time: My Yamaha SRX 400 and a Beautiful Morning in Luisiana, Laguna

I stumbled upon this photo recently while browsing my old Facebook gallery. It was taken sometime in the early 2000s, back when life was a bit simpler and my Yamaha SRX 400 Cafe Racer was still roaring with youthful defiance. Looking at it, I was instantly transported to that cold, beautiful morning in Luisiana, Laguna.

The night before, I had stayed at a friend’s house—a spontaneous visit that turned into a night of shared stories and a bottle of liquor, the kind of evening that reminds you how good life can be when shared with someone who truly knows you. Morning came with the scent of hot coffee and a hearty breakfast. After thanking my friend for the warm hospitality, I prepared to leave.

The Luisiana morning was stunning—chilly air brushing against my skin, and the sunlight gently breaking through the mist, hinting at the promise of another unforgettable ride. I grabbed my bag, pulled on my gloves and pullover, strapped on my helmet, and walked towards my Yamaha.

As I sat on the bike, waiting for the engine to warm up, I couldn’t help but smile and whisper, “You ugly bastard.” Ugly, maybe—but it was mine. It had soul. A machine that had taken me through countless roads and moods, and still thumped with a steady heartbeat, reminding me of who I was back then.

We rode into the zigzag roads of Luisiana, where I spotted the location in the photo. The view was perfect—rustic, real, and quietly powerful. A farmer happened to be walking by, and I politely asked if he could take a picture of me with the bike. He obliged, and that moment was frozen in time.

The ride continued, and so did the smile in my heart. The steady thump of the single-cylinder engine, the raw vibration beneath me, and the wind kissing my face—those are feelings you can’t fake or replace. They are pure, and they remind you of freedom. Of youth. Of what it means to feel alive even when you’re riding alone.

And when I finally reached home, there was no fanfare—just a deep sense of peace. A beautiful day. A bike with character. And a life, still unfolding, one ride at a time.

A Year of Change and Reflections

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s been a year since my last post! Time has a way of slipping through our fingers, doesn’t it? Life has been a whirlwind of experiences, and I’m sure many of you have felt the same way. As I sit down to write, I find myself reflecting on all the happenings of the past months—both the highs and the lows.

I decided to use an old picture of my bike for this post. It feels fitting, as I’ve been reminiscing about our adventures together. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to ride her in a while. Just before I left the country, I attempted to breathe new life into her; I even painted her to give her a fresh look. But with my hectic schedule, I never completed the project. It’s been two long years since I last took her out on the Bucal Bypass Trail, where we shared some incredible moments. Despite some wobbles in her engine and steering, I remember that day with a smile—nothing beats the thrill of the open trail.

While my original plan was to focus this blog on off-road riding, life has taken me in a different direction for now. I find myself in a new place without my beloved bike, but I’m optimistic about the riding trails that await discovery here. Who knows what adventures are just around the corner?

In the meantime, I want to share snippets of my everyday life with you. From the small joys to the everyday challenges, there’s a lot to talk about! Whether it’s exploring new surroundings, trying out local food, or simply reflecting on my journey, I’m excited to bring you along for the ride.

If you’ve got some time to spare, stick around! I can’t wait to share more about my experiences here and what life has thrown my way. Here’s to new beginnings and the hope of future trails to conquer!
