🚨 Vancouver Police target bear spray sales following increase in youth-related incidents
The Vancouver Police Department says it issued $4,000 in fines to three businesses after an enforcement project focused on reducing youth access to bear spray.
📊 104 youth-involved bear spray incidents were recorded between January 1 and August 15, 2026, compared with 83 during the same period in 2025.
👮 VPD officers inspected 27 businesses across Vancouver and reminded retailers about the City of Vancouver’s rules, including restrictions on selling bear spray and similar sprays to people under 19 and requirements to retain buyer information for 12 months.

🕐🇨🇦 B.C. IS DONE FALLING BACK!

British Columbia has officially introduced Pacific Time (PCT) as the abbreviation for its year-round Pacific time zone. The province will remain at UTC−7, with no clock change on November 1, 2026. ⏰

📌 What this means:
• No more spring-forward/fall-back changes for most of B.C.
• PCT = Pacific Time
• Permanent UTC−7 for most of the province
• The final clock change happened on March 8, 2026
• Some communities in northern and southeastern B.C. continue to observe Mountain Time arrangements.

The B.C. government says the new PCT designation is being introduced to provide consistency for businesses, organizations and public-facing systems.

🇨🇦🚨 GOOGLE IS STARTING AI AGE CHECKS IN CANADA

Google is bringing its AI-powered age-assurance technology to Canada — and it could change how some Canadians use Google and YouTube.

🤖 Google says its AI can estimate whether someone is under 18 by looking at signals already associated with their account, such as:

🔎 What they search for
▶️ The categories of YouTube videos they watch
📱 Other account activity

If Google believes an account belongs to someone under 18, additional protections may be applied, including restrictions on content recommendations and personalized advertising.

But here's the part that has people talking 👀

❓ What happens if Google gets your age WRONG?

Adults who are incorrectly identified may have to prove their age using options such as government ID, a selfie or credit-card verification.

Google says it will gradually roll out the technology in Canada and that it isn't collecting new information specifically for age assurance.

🚨 98 km/h in a 50 km/h zone — because they needed a bathroom? 😳

Abbotsford Police say a 65-year-old driver was caught travelling 98 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on King Road near Bradner Road.

The area was a construction zone next to a school zone, and police say the driver was aggressively passing other vehicles.

When asked why they were speeding, the driver reportedly said they “needed to get to a bathroom.” 🚗💨🚻

Police issued an excessive speeding ticket and impounded the vehicle for 7 days.

Abbotsford Police say 329 vehicles have been impounded for excessive speed so far this year.

😔 A piece of B.C. history has come down.
The world’s tallest totem pole in Alert Bay, B.C., has been removed after standing for more than 50 years.
📍 The 173-foot pole was raised in 1973 and became one of Alert Bay’s most recognizable landmarks. It was taken down in September 2026 due to structural safety concerns.
🌲 A new totem pole is planned, expected to reach approximately 176 feet.
A remarkable chapter of Alert Bay’s history comes to an end — but its story continues.

🇨🇦🇪🇺 Canada Is NOT Joining the European Union, Carney Says

Prime Minister Mark Carney has clarified that Canada is not looking to become a member of the European Union.

Speaking to reporters at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, Carney said Canada instead wants to build a “unique alliance” with the EU based on shared values, priorities and complementary strengths.

The comments come as Canada looks to strengthen relationships with Europe amid growing trade tensions with the United States.

🎡 PNE 2026 DRAWS 642,149 VISITORS! 🇨🇦🔥

The numbers are in — and Vancouver’s PNE continues to attract massive crowds!

👥 642,149 guests visited the PNE in 2026, beating:

📈 2024: 637,920
📈 2025: 612,404
🎪 2026: 642,149

That’s an increase of 29,745 visitors compared with 2025! 🙌

The attendance recovery continues after the pandemic, although the PNE still has a way to go to reach the 700,000+ annual crowds it regularly attracted before 2020.

From SuperDogs and carnival rides to food adventures like grilled cheese crickets, the PNE remains one of Vancouver’s biggest summer attractions. 🎢🐶🍴
