Looking over acoustic measurements from our Nashville project today. The control room features Neumann KH-420 3-way monitors flush mounted in-wall, for performance that is simply unmatched by freestanding speakers. This is the best low frequency response we could ask for in this room with these speakers.
The control room and vocal booth were built inside their own isolated room shells, and the entire project was client built!

This was an unconditioned 2 car garage, so the first steps were removal & infill of the garage door and 2 windows, then building an isolated inner room shell. The initial plan was for a smaller scale project in another space, but after 2 months of planning and evaluating complications, the space was deemed unsuitable and the decision was made to convert the 2 car garage to build Vespers' "ultimate dream music studio".

The acoustic build was based on my older designs, expanded from a smaller modular room build I did for Vespers back in 2018. Despite this, the acoustic design of the room comfortably sits among the best designed control rooms in Canada with an incredibly tight & detailed low frequency response from the hard flush mounted speaker wall.

A few progress shots from Ibiza

Guiding the builder on this project took a lot more support than usual, as we navigated sourcing materials and building something quite different than the guys were experienced with! The odd shape was chosen to maximize room volume and fit the available space according to the client's preferences.

Flush mounted Neumann KH-420, acoustically decoupled from the wall with a 1/8" reveal and no "picture frame". Not easily done, but they look so clean.. and of course sound fantastic! Nothing comes close to a well designed flush mounted speaker wall.

Nice to see this one all wrapped up for one of Canada's top DJ / producers and an all-around solid lad! Steve did a fantastic job with the build and it was a smooth flowing process from start to finish.

Studio design is where acoustic science and interior design meet. Every project is a well tailored suit factoring in aesthetic & ergonomic preferences, room dimensions, budget, and any future upgrade plans. The end result should be a comfortable space that sounds amazing and is enjoyable & inspiring to work in.
