When I was still working a full-time job, I used every spare weekend to shoot, pitch, and build what eventually became my full-time career.

Here’s how I made it work:

1.I picked up my camera every weekend
No excuses. I treated Saturday like a shoot day and Sunday like an editing and pitching day

2.I built a portfolio by doing what I loved
Even if I wasn’t getting paid yet, I shot the kind of content I wanted brands to hire me for

3.I pitched hotels, tourism boards, and brands in advance

Even if I wasn’t traveling far, I showed them how I could bring value. That’s how I landed my first paid stay

After years of hiking, climbing, and filming in some of the world’s wildest places, I’ve learned one thing: invest in quality gear the first time

When you’re deep in the mountains or caught in an unexpected storm, you don’t want to be thinking about whether your jacket is waterproof or your boots can handle the terrain. Every piece in this lineup has been field tested on glaciers, ridgelines, and summit camps and it’s earned its place

From the Arc’teryx Beta AR jacket that’s saved me in whiteouts

To the Vallon Glacier Glasses that block serious alpine glare

And the boots that keep me warm and steady on ice, gear matters

I’m not saying you need to buy the most expensive thing out there, but buying quality once beats buying cheap three times. That said, a great tip if you’re starting out is to buy used. There are so many secondhand marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace, GearTrade, Patagonia Worn Wear, and Arc’teryx ReBird where you can score high end gear for a fraction of the price
