Trying to keep you head above water financially these days is hard. All the things I thought I would be able to afford at my age are not priorities because money is tight. I feel fortunate to be in the position I am with a full time, above average paying job but in order to be financially secure I have had to give up most luxuries I thought I’d be able to afford.
I don’t shop at Sephora at all anymore… quite honestly I find it to be a waste of money.
I’ve never driven a brand new car nor do I intend to unless I could buy it in cash. The interest on that type of loan could be invested instead for my retirement.
I’ve also stopped getting my hair coloured and get trims at budget friendly salons because honestly I don’t think anyone that loves me cares if my hair looks fancy 🤣
We even started doing grocery pick-up and not for the reason you would think. Not being able to see all the new and limited time junk food items in person makes it easy to say no… you quite literally can’t say yes if you can’t see it. This has helped us shave down our groceries to roughly $110 a week for 2 adults eating mostly every meal at home.
Even though I feel like all the items I cut are luxuries at some point points I would like to have, I feel the long term effect it will have on me financially is worth it. That mental shift has helped me steer away from over consumption.
