Who forgot to double-check the Excel formulas before hitting save? 😭📊

👉 The B.C. government says four calculation mistakes caused it to overestimate how much money the province expects to collect from natural gas royalties by about $1.46 billion over five years.

👉 In simple terms: natural gas companies pay B.C. royalties for extracting publicly owned resources. The province tried to predict how much that would bring in, but the spreadsheet math was wrong.

👉 The biggest mistake involved currency conversion. Some natural gas prices were already listed in Canadian dollars, but were mistakenly treated like U.S. dollars and converted again, making the expected revenue look higher than it really was.

👉 As a result, B.C. now expects about $306 million less in royalty revenue this year, plus an average of roughly $292 million less per year over the following four years than previously forecast.

👉 Important distinction: $1.5 billion didn’t disappear from a bank account. This was an error in how much future revenue the government expected to receive. Updated numbers are expected in B.C.’s next fiscal report.

A high-profile Vancouver police officer and youth advocate is now facing nine criminal charges 👀

👉 Kalwinder “Kal” Dosanjh, a 26-year veteran of the Vancouver Police Department and founder of the KidsPlay Youth Foundation, was arrested Thursday following a covert police investigation that lasted more than two years.

👉 Crown prosecutors approved four counts of fraud over $5,000, four counts of theft over $5,000 and one count of breach of trust. Police allege the conduct happened between 2017 and 2025 and was connected to housing developments.

👉 VPD says investigators have identified 19 alleged victims so far, who collectively reported losses of more than $3 million, and police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

👉 Dosanjh has been suspended from the VPD, and Chief Steve Rai has recommended that the suspension be without pay while the criminal case proceeds. His police powers have been removed and his service weapon seized.

👉 A second man, Sarabjit Singh Gill, is also facing three counts of fraud over $5,000 and three counts of theft over $5,000. Dosanjh, through his lawyer, has said he is innocent and committed no crimes. The allegations have not been proven in court.

That commute got a little TOO comfortable 😭🚗

👉 BC Highway Patrol says two witnesses spotted a Tesla driver who appeared to be asleep behind the wheel on Highway 1 near Mountain Highway in North Vancouver on Aug. 11.

👉 The passenger in another vehicle recorded video, and both witnesses told police they’re willing to testify in court.

👉 Officers later tracked the Tesla’s registered owner to her home in Maple Ridge. Police say the 45-year-old woman matched the description of the driver seen in the video.

👉 She was issued a $368 ticket for driving without due care and attention. BC Highway Patrol also made it clear that self-driving technology does not make it legal to sleep behind the wheel in B.C.

👉 Police say driver inattention remains a major factor in serious and fatal crashes, and drivers must stay fully alert behind the wheel regardless of what technology their vehicle has.

UBC nursing just got a $40 million upgrade 🎓💙

👉 UBC alumni Matthew and Natalie MacIsaac have donated $40 million to the university’s School of Nursing, making it the largest donation ever made to a nursing school in Canadian history.

👉 In recognition of the gift, the school will officially become the MacIsaac School of Nursing, while its new campus home will be renamed the MacIsaac Health Building. The new names are expected to officially launch in early fall.

👉 The money will support nursing education, research and clinical training, including hands-on learning in specialized nursing labs and high-tech simulation suites.

👉 The 270,550-square-foot health building also brings together nursing, kinesiology, student health services and a new team-based care teaching clinic under one roof.

That escalated from bird control to 16 police officers very quickly 😅

👉 Abbotsford Police were called to an apartment building on Whatcom Road shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday after several people reported seeing a man walking on the roof carrying what appeared to be a r***e.

👉 Because of the possible threat, more than 16 officers responded, contained the area and detained the man without incident.

👉 Police then discovered he was actually an employee of a pest control company conducting bird control with an air r***e.

👉 Notices had reportedly been posted inside the apartment building, but nearby residents, businesses and the general public had not been notified, which explains the very understandable 911 calls.

👉 Abbotsford Police thanked the people who called, saying they did the right thing by reporting what looked like a fi***rm and letting officers determine whether there was a threat.

Saving themselves wasn’t enough. They made sure their animals made it out too.

👉 A B.C. family was forced to evacuate as a wildfire closed in, while also trying to protect 13 horses, four dogs and a pig.

👉 With little time to spare and conditions changing quickly, the family had to make fast decisions to give every animal the best chance of surviving.

👉 Their horses were safely moved or released away from immediate danger, while the dogs and pig were also brought to safety as the family fled the area.

👉 The evacuation is a reminder of how much more complicated wildfire emergencies can become for families with livestock and multiple pets.

👉 Despite the chaos, all of the animals survived, turning an incredibly stressful evacuation into a story of quick thinking and determination.

B.C. really skipped straight from summer to storm season 😭🌧️

👉 Environment Canada called the system that moved onto the coast Tuesday the first fall storm of the season, bringing heavy rain and strong southerly winds to parts of coastal B.C.

👉 Special weather statements covered the north and central coasts, including Prince Rupert, Kitimat and Bella Bella, as well as parts of Vancouver Island’s west coast from Zeballos to Sooke.

👉 Officials warned the heavy rain could cause sudden rises in streams, localized flooding and a higher risk of landslides, especially in areas already affected by summer drought.

👉 Strong winds were expected to peak Tuesday night before easing into Wednesday, while rain continued overnight in parts of the coast and Vancouver Island.

👉 And despite Environment Canada calling it a fall storm, astronomical fall doesn’t officially begin until September 22.

“Can’t park there”... No but really you can’t park there.

👉 Burnaby RCMP says an officer spotted a Tesla completely parked on the sidewalk outside the Starbucks near Holdom Station around 6:45 a.m. on Aug. 17. A parking lot was reportedly only metres away.

👉 Police identified the driver as a 53-year-old woman from Langley. She reportedly told officers she didn’t know she wasn’t allowed to drive or park on the sidewalk and said she plans to fight the ticket.

👉 The vehicle also did not have a front licence plate. Burnaby RCMP’s social media post originally said the incident resulted in $190 worth of fines, although Cpl. Mike Kalanj later told CTV News the actual total issued was $109.

👉 The Tesla had an “N” decal, although police said they could not confirm whether the woman herself was a novice driver.

It has been brought to our attention that someone is literally keeping track of Vancouvers tiny traffic cones 👀

👉 After a tourist went viral for noticing Vancouver’s ridiculously tiny traffic cones attached to tree stumps, locals pointed out that there’s apparently a community-made map tracking where they’ve been spotted around the city.

👉 People have even been sharing new locations that still need to be added.

👉 So yes, Vancouver’s baby cones have officially gone from “random thing on a stump” to collectible city landmark.
