The peaceful protest scene depicted in our film was based on a true event that took place 23 years ago today...

On April 25, 1999, more than 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners in China went to the Appeals Office of the State Council on Fuyou Street in Beijing to make an appeal in accordance with the law. They wished to ask the authorities to release the Falun Gong practitioners who had been arrested by the Tianjin public security officers. After Premier Zhu Rongji, the official head of the State Council, personally came out and met with practitioners, the situation was handled and a resolution was reached that was acceptable to both the government and the practitioners. However, after the “April 25th Incident,” Chinese president Jiang Zemin used two secret documents to accuse Falun Gong of two crimes that he wanted to charge them with – namely conspiring with foreign forces and being directed by senior insiders in the Communist Party. In the absence of any corroborating evidence, Jiang decided on a policy of persecution...

電影中的這一幕，正是還原了1999年的425事件！
23年前的今天，究竟發生了什麼事呢？
在《沉默呼聲》中如實呈現了這個事件的面貌

今天想和大家說說，關於 #425和平請願上訪事件

當時中國媒體出現了不實抹黑法輪功的報導，在前一天都還受到中國國家肯定的氣功，卻在一夜之間就變成了抨擊的對象，於是法輪功學員希望透過自己的正面澄清，讓抨擊者撤回不實的報導，但卻在和平訴求的過程中，遭到警察非法暴力毆打及拘捕了許多學員。

一群單純煉功、與世無爭的好人，自發的到了北京信訪局(中國受理民眾的請願單位)，每一個人都安安靜靜、守秩序的排著隊等待上訪，心中只有一個單純的願望，希望能有正常的煉功環境，停止中國公安對法輪功學員的騷擾，以及釋放無辜被拘的學員們，希望傳達給政府...百姓心底的聲音。

一萬多名法輪功學員在中南海周圍人行道上安靜的站著、坐著或看著書，16個小時的和平請願，他們沒有口號、沒有標語，不影響周圍交通。
#據美聯社報導，結束時更是一片紙屑都沒有留下，連警察亂扔的煙頭都被學員撿起來清理了。

原北京大學醫學部的工作人員李女士，回憶了當天的經歷：「現場的那種秩序，是發自內心的一種展現。從早到晚一整天，需要上廁所，也需要買吃的東西，但是大家都有秩序地排隊，互相謙讓。」

當時的國務院總理朱鎔基及其他高級官員會見5位法輪功學員代表，得到官方善意的回應後，學員而後散去，上訪和平落幕，被外界稱為是「 #中國史上最大規模的理性和平請願。」

然而，萬萬沒想到的是，才不到兩個月的時間，中共政府高層態度迥變，立刻違背才剛剛承諾人民的「煉功自由」！打壓沒有因此而停止，反而更加變本加厲，對這群善良人的迫害、更可怕的事情正開始...發生了！

今天是425，23年前的今天，我們不能遺忘，
因為，對良知、善良的殘酷迫害，至今依然未曾停歇。

想起男主角王博宇説的那段話：「無論謊⾔有多麽強大，只要人們能夠探尋真相、堅持真相、傳播真相， #真相一定會戰勝謊言的！」

是的，希望看完電影的我們，都能從中找到共鳴與更多的勇氣，
保持心中的善，與真相同行，一起發聲！

We are deeply saddened to hear our long time collaborator, supporter, and our dear friend David Kilgour, passed away on Tuesday, April 5. David was among the first in the west who stood up for the persecuted people under the CCP regime. He and the Canadian human rights lawyer David Matas co-authored the book, Bloody Harvest: The Killing of Falun Gong for Their Organs, which brought great awareness around the globe towards the CCP’s inhumane organ trade. David had one of the biggest hearts and the kindest souls. He will always be missed. May he Rest In Peace.
