It's so easy to sell yourself a false narrative!

Ever since moving to Canada in 2022 (and well.. since COVID before then) I've largely worked remotely.

And I always said I'd never be able to go back to a 9-5 in-person arrangement!!

But this past month has been absolutely surprising in that I find my in-office routine and the structure in my day so refreshing that my WFH days leave me feeling urgh 😩

I've come to realize that the practice of waking up, getting dressed, following a schedule and being accountable to a routine is more healthy for me than I realized 😳

Have you made the transition either way and what has been your experience?

The way we think about careers shapes the options we believe are available to us.

We’re often taught to think about careers in terms of decisions: choose a path, specialize, build expertise, stay on track.
But what happens when your interests no longer fit neatly into one path?
Maybe the more useful question isn’t which direction to choose, but what else could have a legitimate place in your professional life.

You don’t have to stay trapped in your success.

Some people likely thought it crazy for me to break out of the prestige and security of my position as a university professor.

But when I chose to no longer let my value be defined by titles and external metrics, I was able to create space for contributions that didn't feel like work at all!

By expanding my thinking around my own professional identity, I was able to expand my career options.

Now I am PAID to do what I simply love to do.

And every professional experience in my past has led me here.

You can expand your career to, by embracing an expanded professional identity.

Stop building a career that looks like everyone else's.

When you do this, you compete in an overcrowded space for the same generic opportunities.

Your story is powerful.

Embrace your unique perspectives and value and start exploring ways you can infuse those into your work and career.

There's a real reason you feel stuck in your career!

The Identity Trap is a real psychological process that prevents experienced professionals from exploring what's possible for the next phase of their careers.
