Hello, how are you? Truly, how are you doing?
We hope you are safe and we hope you are not alone.

The last couple weeks we’ve taken a break from the usual social media & client promotion - so we can help our community. It has been a difficult couple of weeks for communities throughout British Columbia and Canada during this intense wildfire season. Even as I write this, fires rage. But today there are clearer skies in Vernon and deep breaths fill my lungs. So I’m grateful with a moment of peace.

While this time, my family wasn’t evacuated, everyone on Westside Road had to flee at a moments notice. I too remember getting a call to look out my window years ago and seeing the hillside on fire and leaving in minutes. Shock and horror. I feel all of it again each fire season. Each time a fire truck siren rings in August, it’s time to re-check the bug out bags.

Once again I’m beyond grateful and humbled by the relentless work by all our firefighters and first responders across Canada, British Columbia, and other countries like Mexico and Columbia. While here in Vernon our ESS services, OKIB and City of Vernon communications teams were valuable resources of up to date information. Thank you and a big hug. Obrigado e um grande abraco.

The past weeks we witnessed first hand, the immense capacity our community has to help, volunteer, support, take in evacuees, give and love. Open hearts that will be needed for months to come.

The Bradley Creek Fire has changed our community forever and it will take time, support and love to help everyone through each step. It will also take great stewardship and strength to make the changes needed for green forests and clean water to flourish. So be gentle and kind with one another. In my years living in the Okanagan, I’ve only seen this community’s love grow. So here we grow again. Lead with love.

Thank you, everyone, for your incredible support and generosity. We are so grateful for the ongoing donations from our community.

Just a quick update as of Thursday, August 6: W.L. Seaton is no longer accepting regular-sized clothing, bedding, or towels unless they are brand new.

Community Update: ESS Reception Centre information for (tomorrow) August for 05, 2026:

Update as of 8:30pm, Aug. 4, 2026

OKIB Reception centre will be located at the Fairfield Hotel, 5300 Anderson Way

The reception will open at 10:00am. Upon arrival please check-in with the Meet & Greet volunteers who are wearing orange vests and are located in the Lobby.

The Meet & Greet volunteers will collect your name and contact information, and will ask you how much notice you will need to return to the reception centre.

You will then be contacted to return to the reception centre to meet with a volunteer to process your ESS supports when a Registration and Referrals Volunteer is available.

A space for band members to gather and visit is available at the Prestige Vernon Hotel, 4411 32nd St. across from London Drugs.

When referrals are set to expire here is the process:

If you received an e-transfer for all of your ESS supports you will you receive a phone call to the phone number you gave on your registration.

The ESS Volunteer will be confirming that your current supports are adequate and if so, your supports will be extended to August 12th and you will receive an e-transfer to cover shelter and food.

If you received any ESS supports with a pink referral form for a hotel or groceries, you will need to attend the reception centre at the Fairfield Inn to extend your supports August 12, 2026

If there are any changes to your current ESS supports you will need to return to the OKIB ESS Reception Centre at the Fairfield Hotel.

The City of Vernon - Local Government continues to actively support response efforts related to the Bradley Creek Wildfire and providing support to those who have been affected.

Key information:

➡️ Emergency Support Services (ESS) are available online (ess.gov.bc.ca) and by phone (1-800-387-4258) for eligible evacuees. Assistance can be accessed without visiting the Reception Centre.

➡️ ESS Reception Centre 📍 Kal Tire Place, 3445 43 Avenue 🕘 Open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
