Pirate Pak Day is back for one day only, bringing back the chain’s iconic pirate ship meals, classic burgers, golden chocolate coins, and plenty of nostalgia.

Now in its 14th year, the annual event will donate $2 from every Pirate Pak sold to Zajac Ranch for Children, a B.C. charity that provides accessible summer camp experiences for children and young adults with serious illnesses and chronic disabilities.

This year’s Pirate Pak menu includes several White Spot favourites, including The Legendary Burger, Bacon Cheddar Burger, BC Chicken Burger, and Dippin’ Chicken. Pirate Paks will also be available at participating White Spot locations as well as on the BC Ferries.

Public concerns grow as old-growth logging deferrals near Fairy Creek approach deadline

Temporary protections for some of B.C.’s remaining old-growth forests, including the Fairy Creek (Ada’itsx) area on Vancouver Island, are set to expire on September 30, 2026. The deadline has sparked concern among members of the public, as these forests are home to thousand-year-old trees and play a vital role in supporting wildlife, protecting ecosystems, storing carbon, and preserving some of the province’s most unique natural landscapes.

Forests Minister Ravi Parmar says the province will seek further extensions if long-term agreements with the Pacheedaht First Nation are not finalized before the current deferrals expire. The future of these ancient forests remains a major point of discussion as B.C. works toward long-term conservation and land-use decisions.

British Columbia declared a provincewide state of emergency Saturday afternoon. 🔥😢

More than 100 wildfires are burning across the province. Roughly 21,700 people have been forced from their homes, while another 9,700 remain under evacuation alert.

All 12,000 residents of Summerland were ordered to evacuate Friday night. The fast-moving Bald Range wildfire was threatening the community. Officials say homes and properties have been destroyed. Firefighters and emergency crews are working around the clock as conditions remain “explosive.”

Premier David Eby urged anyone under an evacuation order to leave immediately. The province says the state of emergency will give officials additional powers to respond quickly to the crisis.

One of Victoria's oldest residences is closing to the public. 😥

Point Ellice House will be shutting its doors as a public heritage destination in two weeks, officially closing on August 21. Located in Victoria's Burnside-Gorge neighbourhood, Point Ellice House was built between 1861 and 1862 for Charles Wentworth and his wife, Catherrine, who was the daughter of the Hudson's Bay Company's chief factor.

The site was designated as a national historic site of Canada in 1966, and became a provincial heritage site in 1975.

Trump just called Canada "nasty."

U.S. President Donald Trump called Canada's leadership "nasty" while defending his tariff policies, just hours before Canada's top trade officials met with their American counterparts in Washington.

Following the meeting, Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc described the talks as "constructive and detailed," while Prime Minister Mark Carney responded by saying Canada will continue standing up for Canadian workers and businesses as trade negotiations continue.

Victoria is getting another chance to catch the Canadian Snowbirds in the skies this weekend.

The famed aerobatic team is scheduled to fly over the Inner Harbour at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, as part of the David Foster Foundation’s 40th anniversary celebration.

The flypast will feature the Snowbirds’ iconic CT-114 Tutor aircraft, joined by three RCAF CF-18 fighter jets from Cold Lake, Alberta. The appearance comes as the Snowbirds prepare to retire the decades-old Tutor jets, with the flyby dependent on weather and flight conditions.

Canada's job market just got a big boost. 💼

Canada added 75,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate fell to 6.4%, its lowest level in two years, according to Statistics Canada.

Canada has lost a broadcasting legend. 🕊️

Lloyd Robertson, the longtime face of CTV National News, has died at the age of 92. Robertson spent decades informing Canadians, anchoring CTV National News from 1984 to 2011 after joining the network in 1976.

He later continued hosting W5 until his retirement in 2016. Tributes have poured in from journalists, politicians, and Canadians across the country remembering one of the nation's most trusted broadcasters.

TELUS recently announced that they will be committing $21.7 million in investments in Saanich and Victoria.

The company says the investments are intended to improve connectivity and support economic activity in the region.

This year as part of its broader $15 billion investment plan in British Columbia over five years. The funding will go towards network upgrades, youth programming, scholarships, grants for local organizations, and digital inclusion and health care access programs through the Cool Aid Society.

They also plans to redevelop office buildings as part of its copper retirement program, with the goal of contributing to rental housing supply.

The fight over telecom junk fees isn't over yet. 📱

The CRTC has delayed its deadline for Bell, Rogers, and Telus to respond to concerns about whether they're complying with Canada's ban on plan-switching junk fees.

The regulator banned the fees in March, with the rules taking effect in June, but the major telecom providers argued some charges were exempt. Companies found violating the rules could face fines of up to $10 million.

The CRTC says it will set a new deadline after reviewing requests to extend the proceedings.
