California wants Canadian tourists back. 🇨🇦

California tourism leaders flew to Vancouver saying they miss Canadian visitors and are worried about a sharp drop in U.S. travel.

B.C. to Washington trips are down 37%, West Hollywood is down 10% in Canadian visitors and some people say they are avoiding the U.S. entirely. Reps stated they want to rebuild trust and insist California is safe, welcoming and blue.

Smart move or too restrictive? 🤔

Canada’s tightening its immigration policies. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne announced in Tuesday’s federal budget that the government will bring immigration levels down to “sustainable levels.”

This comes after months of changes to the international student program—from stricter living expense requirements ($22,895 a year) to delayed rules on post-graduation work permits.

Between January and June, Canada issued 70% fewer student permits compared to last year. The government says it’s trying to balance incoming students and workers with those whose permits are expiring in 2025 and 2026.

A B.C. business owner took BC Ferries to court. 🚢

A Nanoose Bay business director claimed her company suffered financial losses because of unreliable ferry service and lack of Wi-Fi onboard. She sought $27,000 in damages, saying delays, cancellations, and poor internet cost her time and sales.

But the BC Civil Resolution Tribunal dismissed the case, ruling that BC Ferries isn’t legally required to provide Wi-Fi and didn’t breach its service terms. The tribunal capped her potential payout at $5,000, but even that was denied due to lack of evidence.

Canada’s student visa rejections for India have soared. 📈

New government data reveals 74% of Indian student visa applications were rejected this August—a massive jump from 32% last year. The Canadian government has been tightening student visa limits for the second year in a row, citing efforts to curb fraud and control temporary migration.

In contrast, rejection rates for other international students were far lower—about 40% overall, and just 24% for Chinese applicants.
