1/4 Scale 112" Spitfire MK 9 by Clark Industries. Fitted with a 150cc 3w inline twin, which is much more power than the 50cc engine it came originally fitted with.

This particular aircraft is actually a Rescue Plane. Art saved it from it's destiny as a static display and made it fly again. It's been a project several years in the making. This summer was working on getting the engine to run properly.

I’ve finished the foam Avro Arrow I’ve been scratch building. This is the first foamie I’ve ever built. I didn’t have any plans or design. I just started with my chosen thrust system (50mm edf making 900g thrust) and built up from there.

It has a wing span of 25.5 inches and is 36 inches long. I wanted it to weigh 650g at takeoff… It weighs in at 950 g. Less than ideal but perhaps closer to the thrust to weight ratios of larger, composite turbine models. Which is my ultimate end goal (a turbine-powered Avro Arrow based fighter jet)

Since this is a prototype for a larger model, I need to prove the flight characteristics of this model, so yes IT WILL FLY (at least once)!

I designed it to give good slow flight characteristics, sacrificing top speed for good static thrust with fat Wings conducive to slow flight at a high angle of attack with ailerons that stay responsive when the wing starts to stall. I haven’t flown it yet, which should be obvious by the fact it’s still in 1 piece.

We all know that feeling. The feeling you get after driving out to the flying field in the morning, setting up your aircraft and firing it up for the first time that day.

Listen to that baby purr!

We placed a field cam for the pilots to fly by
and we captured some fun moments. I created this
compilation of the best bits. We have a Extra 300, a 1/4
scale J3 Cub and a Slick 580 all flying at the same
time.

I hope you enjoy the compilation!

The Extra 300 splitting in half upon impact didn't stop us from getting in two flights. The first flight was suddenly cut short due to an accelerated meeting with the ground, which resulted in the plane being split in two. Unsurprisingly it has happened to this plane before... a few times. It was a quick field repair as the prop wasn't broken and everything else was still operational. Once the repair was complete we took to the skies again and having not learned our lesson the first time, we end up having a bit of an abrupt landing at the close.

Flying this plane is currently our favorite to fly because Chris has crashed it so much he is more willing to push the limits on the maneuvers he tries. He wants to get really good at low to the ground inverted circuits and it seems like he is accomplishing his goal... well except for the occasional crash, it happens.

We hope you enjoy our Blue Skies & Tailwind Friday night flight

Can anyone guess what iconic Canadian aircraft this is being modeled after?

I’ve been working on this foamboard rc plane for maybe a week , in the evenings after work. It’s probably about time I post some pics!

It’s designed to hold the 50mm edf pictured here. An x-fly, producing about 900g thrust on a 4s 2200mah battery. I designed the bifurcated thrust tubes to produce full static thrust instead of high speed thrust and plan to fatten the wing from the original aircraft, so it will fly slow and gracefully. Otherwise I would be flying fast all the time and landing hot, as the original aircraft was a Mach 2 interceptor designed to go EXTREMELY FAST!

Here we have the Turbo Timber by Horizon Hobby... The landing gear had become a bit wonky from a previous flight and was preventing Chris from making any landings stick. It become quite comical that every landing that evening with this plane resulted in a flip... I don't know if chris found it funny but I did.

So here's the montage!

After a simple takeoff into a fairly high wind, I throw the plane around with some snap rolls, a high speed downwind pass and some more flippity doo das. :)

My favourite time to fly is in high winds. It's extremely fun to fly a plane on the edge of it's flight envelope... and it will keep you on your toes!

At 1 point in this flight I came so close to the ground, I heard my plane smack the grass. Check out the full video to see more! https://youtu.be/ge7m4u-uOkc
