Ontario Investing $32.5 Million to Protect Border Security

New tools will help police services fight illegal drugs, guns and cross-border crime

As part of its work to protect Ontario and keep communities safe, the government says it is strengthening border security by investing $32.5 million in new tools, technology and investigative resources that will help police detect, deter and disrupt the smuggling of illegal fi****ms, drugs and other contraband into Ontario.

“Protecting Ontario starts with strong borders,” said Solicitor General Michael Kerzner. “We’re giving police the tools they need to stop illegal guns, drugs and organized crime before they reach our communities because every illegal firearm or shipment of drugs intercepted at the border is one less threat to Ontario families.”

As part of Operation Deterrence, Ontario is introducing two new border security initiatives: a $30 million Border Security Grant to help eligible municipal and First Nations police services purchase specialized equipment, including drones, marine vessels, radar, thermal imaging cameras, surveillance systems and secure intelligence technology; and a $2.5 million Border Integrity Investigative Fund to support investigations into illegal fi****ms trafficking, drug smuggling, organized crime and other cross-border criminal activity.

Downtown Windsor Revitalization Survey Returns to Measure Community Perspectives

Two years after launching the Strengthen the Core (STC) – Downtown Windsor Revitalization Plan, the City of Windsor is inviting residents, business owners, service providers, and visitors to complete an annual survey to help track progress in community perceptions, provide feedback on experiences, and identify opportunities for continued improvement in the downtown core.

The survey will be open from August 7 to September 7, 2026, enabling the City to track progress in downtown Windsor over time. The follow-up survey is a critical step in ensuring that the Strengthen the Core plan remains responsive, data-driven, and informed by the community. Feedback gathered through the survey will help guide future investments, programming, and partnerships while helping the City measure progress and identify priorities for continued improvement in downtown Windsor. Results will be aggregated and shared through updates to Council.
