The latest edition of The Point is here, and in this special summer issue we’re proud to share work that reflects the creative heart of this community, and the healing power of self-expression and collaboration.

In Point Douglas, creativity and connection show up every day. Through public art, poetry, and the care we offer one another, these pages highlight what’s possible when we share space, stories, and support.

Since Canadians are banned from sharing local news, we are looking for ways to get some important articles out to the public! Not sure if this will fly, but check out the amazing wrap-around housing services the West End Women's Center is providing!

Dear Vivian Santos,

In regards to the closure of the Community Connections essential service at the Millenium Library I would like to offer my perspective.

As a member of the downtown Wpg residents and creator/editor for the Point Community News I would hope that leaders would see the work of organizations like this as progressive and something to be proud of. I work with local writers, activists, and community groups and have had a connection with employees of Community Connections.
This organization brings resources and aid to the street community. They are feet on the ground, peer support in a non-threatening, open-access approach. Weekly smudge sessions are offered as well to give spiritual connections to those who may not have access to medicines and teachings.

The Library will not have capacity to meet the needs of this community if CC closes. I am concerned that the trust being built with other users of the library will also be lost.
I respect the leaders in the Indigenous community such as Michael Champagne who promote a harm-reduction approach rather than a police presence.

As we move away from punitive, carceral modes of interaction, we need to increase services such as this, not decrease.

Thank you for listening
