Cameroonian singer Joli has reacted to the online comparisons between her and Ayra Starr following the viral attention around her song “Mule Makossa” remix featuring Locko.
Speaking in a recent video, Joli said she first discovered the conversation after her phone started blowing up with notifications while she was at a nail salon. According to her, a random post describing her as “Cameroon’s Ayra Starr” eventually made its way to the Nigerian side of X, where the debate quickly took off.
While appreciating the attention the song has been receiving, the singer said she doesn’t want unnecessary comparisons creating tension between fanbases.
“Ayra Starr is a brand on her own and Joli is a brand on her own,” she said.
Joli also clarified that she has no issues with Ayra Starr, calling the Nigerian singer “my girl,” while encouraging fans to keep streaming “Mule Makossa” on all platforms.
