Nigeria election: Muhammadu Buhari hails ‘vote for change’

Nigerians in the city of Jos celebrate Mr Buhari’s victory
The winner of Nigeria’s presidential poll, Muhammadu Buhari, has hailed his victory as a vote for change and proof the nation has embraced democracy.

Mr Buhari also praised outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan as a “worthy opponent” who peacefully relinquished power.

Gen Buhari beat Mr Jonathan by 15.4 million votes to 13.3 million.
Observers have generally praised the election, though there have been allegations of fraud.

Mr Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, has become the first opposition candidate to win a presidential election in Nigeria.
The former military ruler said: “President Jonathan was a worthy opponent and I extend the hand of fellowship to him
“We have proven to the world that we are people who have embraced democracy. We have put the one-party state behind us.”
He added: “Nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country is more important than anything else.”

ZCAS Student to represent Zambia on Information Technolog forum in USA

A 23-YEAR-OLD Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS) student will represent Zambia in Washington on an information technology forum.

Fidelis Chulu, who scooped the global student entrepreneur award (GSEA) for 2014 in Lusaka yesterday, is the third student to represent Zambia in Washington on an entrepreneur’s organisation global competition.

Mr Chulu, who is a member of ZCAS’ national computing council, said he will represent Zambia with an intellectual mind to solicit for more sponsorship in promoting student business ideas.

“Zambia should engage more of such [GSEA] to encourage students in being entrepreneurs so that we can contribute positively to the economy,” Mr Chulu said.

Mr Chulu said young people form the most powerful resources to use for economic and social development.

And Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority entrepreneurship development specialist Victor Zumani said youths need to grow in business by engaging in various forums such as the GSEA.

Mr Zumani said young Zambians have the capacity to scale up the business sector by creating jobs for their fellow youths if they are supported.

“Our youths only need to be more innovate and creative to sustain themselves in the business. With entrepreneurship skills, the economy will be dominated by young vibrant youths,” he said.

MMD-National-Youth-Secretary-Tobias-Kafumukache-addresses-journalists-at-the-party-secretariat-in-Lusaka

A Political activist has expressed disappointment over the statement made by PTA Bank in which it reminded the Zambian government about the outstanding crude oil debts of US$257 million.
Tobias Kafumukache, a member of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), says as a concerned citizen he is taken aback because PTA was not the only bank that Zambia owed money.
He said Zambia owes money to a lot of banks like the international Monetary Fund IMF and The World Bank but they have never heard them rush to the media to start making enquiries about the monies owed.
He wondered why PTA had to bring the matter to the attention of the media because business matters are confidential that should not be to be dealt with in the media.
Mr. Kafumukache said PTA knows the mode of communication but he was surprised that the Bank had decided to take the route of the media which was very embarrassing.
He said one wondered if the PTA bank wanted to embarrass the Zambian government. He said it was clear that something needs to be looked at adding that PTA should know that there is no nation in the world that does not owe money.
Mr. Kafumukache who is also PF media mobilization assistant said there are various countries that owe money to banks but they have never heard these banks rushing to BBC or CNN to inquire of balances that are owed to them.
