Why is a starter strip in debate ⁉️ So this picture and the reel I made sparked quite a bit of debate on what’s wrong in the picture. Well I do agree enhanced ice guard has not needed in many areas of the country. Of course underlayment is. Underlayment must lap and has to go over the drip edge or Gutter apron. The drip edger / gutter apron must go into the gutter. Also, I cannot believe the amount of debate there was on a starter strip. A starter strip is not negotiable. When you read the manufacturers instructions or the IRC it’ll say roof covering must be compliant to materials with ASTM listings, blah blah blah blah. when you look up the approved ASTM material i.e. approved shingle they also dictate installation instructions. The engineers at ASTM actually have reports you can read about the shingle on the requirements for it to be a listed product. One of the requirements for it to be a listed product for shingles says a starter strip must “ have a tar or adhesive strip within 1/2 to 3 inches from the eave edge. Must overhang the eave by 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch and must be nailed five times per section” not a home inspector‘s opinion but absolute requirement, especially for a wind damage warranty claim.

🏡 New construction. Home on slab. Yes the slab is that unlevel. No cracking or evidence of movement after construction. Not a structural problem but they didn’t notice the slab slump in the middle of the home this much ⁉️
