As per an article in the Freightwaves, Dustin Jarrard, former operations manager at Georgia-based Tribe Transportation, has been charged with embezzling over $500,000 through a years-long scheme involving fake reimbursement requests and collusion with company drivers. Prosecutors say Jarrard exploited his authority to submit false expense claims for inactive or nonexistent drivers and shared the illicit funds with drivers who helped facilitate the fraud between 2018 and 2024. The FBI and U.S. Attorney emphasized the abuse of trust, noting the funds were meant to support truckers. Tribe Transportation operates 283 trucks with 277 drivers.

According to an article in The Daily Signal, following a directive from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, 1,500 commercial truck drivers have been placed out of service for failing to meet English language requirements, part of President Trump’s executive order to improve road safety. The rule reinstates enforcement of long-standing FMCSA regulations that had been paused under the Obama administration. The move follows fatal incidents involving non-English-speaking drivers and is backed by trucking groups seeking consistent enforcement. The policy aims to ensure drivers can read traffic signs, respond to officials, and understand road conditions in English.

According to an article in the Freightwaves, Florida-based trucking company Carroll Fulmer Logistics is ceasing operations after more than 70 years, laying off 600 employees as it shutters its 400-truck, 1,700-trailer fleet. Despite receiving a $27M credit line in May, the company cites mounting lawsuits and the ongoing Great Freight Recession—starting in March 2022—as key reasons for its collapse. Affected employees will receive 60 days' severance pay. Industry experts warn more closures may follow, as many carriers, including major players like Heartland Express and PAM Transport, are struggling with unsustainable operating ratios.

As per an article in the Fox 13 Tampa Bay, four Cuban nationals from South Florida have been arrested for running a multi-county theft ring targeting engine control modules (ECMs)—vital computer systems in freightliner trucks—causing $750,000 in theft and damage, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The suspects, three of whom are undocumented immigrants, stole ECMs worth $3,000–$10,000 each from trucks across Hillsborough, Lee, Polk, and Duval counties, often destroying engine compartments and wiring. The investigation linked the stolen parts to a Texas buyer and identified 93 victims. Charges include racketeering, grand theft, burglary, and criminal mischief.

As per an article in the CNBC, President Trump’s new trade deal with the EU imposes a 15% tariff on most European goods, including cars, triggering a forecasted 46% drop in U.S. global imports by 2027, according to the OEC Tariff Simulator. While U.S. exports may rise 12%, imports from key partners like China, Canada, and Mexico are expected to fall sharply. Experts warn this will drive up product costs, limit variety on shelves, and delay shipments of high-value goods. Top affected companies include IKEA, Bosch, and Dole, with furniture, tires, and wine among the hardest-hit categories.

Thoughts?!? Comment below

According to an article in the Trucking Dive, the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) fiercely debated the existence of a truck driver shortage during a July 22 Senate subcommittee hearing. ATA argued a shortage exists, citing a 60,000-driver gap and rising wages, while OOIDA called it a myth, blaming high turnover due to poor pay and working conditions. Teamsters President Sean O’Brien supported OOIDA’s view, highlighting lower turnover at union carriers. While both sides agreed on road safety and English rules, they split on hair sample drug testing, with ATA backing it and OOIDA warning of false positives and bias.
