The cause of the accident that killed Diogo Jota and his brother was a blown tire on their Lamborghini.

According to BBC Sport, Jota and his brother were driving at very high speed. During an overtaking maneuver, one of the tires burst, causing the Lamborghini to veer off the road, flip over, and catch fire.

The victims were unable to escape the vehicle, and the car burned completely. Their identities were confirmed only through the car’s license plate.

Local police say Diogo Jota and his brother, André, died at about 00:30 local time on Thursday.

The accident occurred on the A-52 motorway, near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria, when the car they were in went off the road and caught fire after the impact.

Local authorities say their car, a Lamborghini, left the road due to a tyre blow-out while overtaking another vehicle and then caught fire.

Witnesses at the scene immediately alerted the emergency services by calling 112. According to their testimonies, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.
