📑 In-Situ Data-Driven Time-Dependent Durability Forecasting of Prefabricated Components Made with Recycled Aggregate Concrete

📊 What is this study about?

The study investigates the long-term durability and flexural degradation of prefabricated recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) beams subjected to sustained flexural loading and natural atmospheric exposure for up to 80 months.

The research combines in-situ experimental data with a physics-constrained machine learning framework to develop a data-driven approach for forecasting the time-dependent durability performance of prefabricated RAC components.

✨ Introducing Dr. Avik Kumar Das — IOCCI 2026 Scientific Committee Member

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Avik Kumar Das (Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, China) to the IOCCI 2026 Scientific Committee for Session 1: Mathematical Models for Civil Engineering.

🔬 Avik Kumar Das, Ph.D. works at the nexus of engineered cementitious composites, circular construction, and digital fabrication. He develops experimental methods and meso-scale models to improve ECC durability, self-healing, and shrinkage control, while integrating reclaimed and bio-based feedstocks into low-carbon cementitious systems. His research combines embedded sensing and AI-driven monitoring with demonstrator development to translate laboratory findings into reproducible fabrication workflows. He leads interdisciplinary teams in developing sustainability-driven demonstrators and life cycle assessments that bridge materials science, automated construction, and operational decision-making.

This study evaluates the seismic resilience of bridge columns that are critical to transportation lifelines in Vancouver, British Columbia. 🔬 This fully numerical study investigates a scheduled AVSSB layout through coordinated modal, vehicle–bridge interaction (VBI), and vehicle–bridge–soil interaction analyses.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Giulia Del Serrone to the IOCCI 2026 Scientific Committee for Session 5: Construction and Material Engineering.

🏛️Giulia Del Serrone is a researcher in construction and materials engineering at the Sapienza Università di Roma. Her work focuses on sustainable infrastructure materials and technologies within the field of construction engineering. Her research includes permeable pavements and cement-based materials, with particular attention to durability, performance, and environmental impact through life cycle assessment (LCA). She also investigates mitigation strategies for urban heat island effects, including cool pavements, nature-based solutions such as urban green areas, and the innovative reuse of materials (e.g., recycled concrete and railway sleepers).
