Well Hello again! Yes, you haven't heard much from me for a long time, but I see that many have been following my page, and I'm happy and grateful for that.

I'm writing to tell you that I have finally produced something new for SIS. It's a personal commentary about what I call the Swiss Safety Obsession, which you'll find under Bob's Blog. Comments are always welcome.

Our world is in bad shape...

I needn't remind you. But what has happened to us? What has happened to civility, honesty, compassion and humanity? There are possible answers to those and related questions, and they are to be found in the spiritual realm.

References to what's happening now can be clearly found in the Bible and the Vedas of India, dating back thousands of years. No, we're not getting into religion per se, but the connection can't be overlooked.

I once had a discussion about this with an old friend, now deceased: Margo Kirtikar (PhD in Metaphysics), the author of many book on these subjects. Here is the link to that discussion recorded years before the current world situation. Don't let the title fool you:

Erich von Däniken RIP

The Swiss best-selling paranormal author died on January 10th in Interlaken. He had made his home in nearby Brienz for many years. In 2003, Erich von Däniken realized an old dream: a project called "Mystery Park", which depicted some of the world's most mysterious locations which he had researched and written about extensively. I met Erich von Däniken at Mystery Park for a fascinating chat just after the grand opening of the Park.

Hello again. I thought I would take a moment to explain what Switzerland In Sound is, for those who may not know.

When Swiss Radio International (SRI) went silent in October 2004, Switzerland was left without an international shortwave radio voice. SRI was one of the world's most popular international radio stations and was greatly missed by many.

When I took early retirement from the SRI English Service prior to the closure, I wanted to continue the SRI tradition of classic English-language radio from Switzerland. The result was to create my website: www.switzerlandinsound.com. It was intended to be the continuation of the broadcasting tradition I served for 32 years at SRI.

"SIS" contains many reports, features and interviews about Switzerland and things Swiss presented in the old SRI style with a little personalization and adaptation. There is also a section called "Vintage Archive", which contains a number of my SRI features that I was able to preserve. There's also a special section devoted to "The Two Bobs". The official name of that technical mailbag show devoted to radio was "The Swiss Shortwave Merry-Go-Round". But it became better known as "The Two Bobs", because I co-presented it with my good friend and amateur radio colleague, Bob Thoman (HB9GX-SK) from 1970 to 1994 when it was discontinued to the dismay of many, including us! It was a very popular feature on SRI and is still remembered by many.

This page is for people who remember SRI and The Two Bobs, and that great but sadly, disappearing tradition of international broadcasting via shortwave.

This page is open to everyone interested in the great days of international shortwave broadcasting and related subjects. Your active participation is welcome and invited.

I created this new page because as you may know, the original Switzerland In Sound page was maliciously hijacked in October 2025. I was removed as co-admin and no longer had any control over it.
