Patrick Delarive on the danger of accumulating money

” Once you make money, you should be careful to remain normal,
and to know that we all going to die naked.
At the end of the day, it doesn't mean much.
Money is not accumulation.I know so many people who just want to accumulate.
It's like stagnant water where nothing is happening.
It's static.
You have mosquitos, frogs, worms...
It doesn't smell nice: Money should circulate.
Money is energy.
The only tool of money is energy.
Money should circulate like a river.
Look at the mountains now: there was a lot of snow in the winter.
All these rivers going down, they are violent,
because there is so much water, so much pressure.
Money should be like that.
Of course, keep some money if tomorrow you are sick.
Keep the necessary that you need.
Keep some to help the future generations.
But don't keep it to see your bank account growing.
It's not very interesting.
Put it at work.
Make it dynamic. ”

Carla Haddad on respect in teams

Respect of the others opinion ideas,
but also respect as such.
The other thing is understanding that you don't have the answers.
Some people come from a position
of knowledge all the time.
They come to tell you how it is,
that’s how it should be.
And just giving a license to everyone to say,
“We don't know, we're going to co-create it together”.
Not coming from a position of knowledge all the time
makes you feel much better when you're leading a team.
You don't have to prove you know.
Just be yourself.
Say when you don't know.
Don’t come from a position of knowledge.
Acknowledge that we are all lifelong learners.
We're learning as we go.
Nobody today can claim full knowledge of any specific expertise or industry.
Things are moving so fast, technology is changing.
We just need people in teams who can deal with ambiguity and to deal with constant change.
How do you get such a team to work and thrive in the working environment today?
That's a big challenge.”

Alvin Queen on MODERN WORLD:
”They say "modern world".
Nothing is built from solid, nothing.
You go to an old Swiss house here.
Look how that house is built.
Go look at the new ones
I go to Villars all the time, Gryon,
I’m up there all the time.
I look at one chalet and I look at the other one:
like a piece of paper, you see.
So that means there’s no meaning to it, it’s no feeling to that.
When there’s no feeling to something, I can’t feel the music.
But I know who’s got basic training.
I can walk up to the club and say,
Wow! There’s this kid who’s 19 years old.
Right away I spotted him and I encourage him.
Hey, Mr Queen, could you help so and so…
I’d love to help you,
Because he has a gift he found,
If you stay with the basic of anything, it takes off...
You lock the floor down.
This takes off but if you ever get confused
You go back to the basic.
It’s a simple format but it’s complicated.”

Anju Rupal on KARMA

”As an Indian, I believe in karma.
I believe that what you do comes back to you.
That's how my parents have brought me up.
My father always said, it was very important when they went to England,
he never wanted to have to be given things,
he always wanted to give.
I have been brought up on an environment that you pay forward your skillset.
I just naturally believe Karma kicks you back in the backside if you do something wrong.
Karma has a lot to do with how are as a person, your values, how you react,
how you deal with things.
And if you deal with it in a bad way, your karma is gonna be bad.
Karma is what keeps us in balance.
Otherwise, we all will do havoc on the streets.
We wouldn't care about things.
I think karma is important for us just to keep that balance,
to know that things will not hurt you.”

”When you have money, you change.
This is when you become the most dangerous for yourself.
You are feeling overconfident, your guard is going down and danger is coming.
You will become more sensitive to flattery.
You will have less real friends.
You might take out of your life people who are disrupting in what they tell you, people you should not put out of your life.
Success is changing you.
I have had crises because I did change.
I had times when I was wearing a golden watch and driving a Ferrari.
I went through that period of time.
I was arrogant, unpleasant, show-off,
and stupid probably… certainly!
I went through this period of my life, not for long, but I realized that I was changing.
I realised that all these material toys were not solving my deep inside problem: to feel my lack of recognition.
So I found different ways.
But money is changing people a lot.”

"I like to manage teams because I like the feeling and the energy that goes with collective work.
When you have enough cognitive diversity in a team and you can capitalize on the problem-solving skills of different people.
It’s not only diversity in terms of nationalities and languages which we have in the current team.
But also the way they think, the way they problem-solve.
That is something I like.
I don't necessarily go for the hierarchical position.
I moved laterally also.
Twice I managed a division.
It's not so much just to climb.
It’s really to find a sense of accomplishment and achievement with and through others.
What fascinates me is the number of amazing ideas that come from a group, if we have the right environment,
and if we challenge ourselves and shake the status quo, it’s amazing what comes out."

Alvin Queen on the influence of the MASTERS :
"All these big musicians, Oscar Peterson, Art Blakey,
Jimmy Smith and West Montgomery, they were encouraging to me.
This is what young people struggle for.
- I’m going to be better than Alvin Queen.
I never said that.
I cannot be better than my great mentors.
I can only be influenced and try harder.
I can never be at that level, because that level was so correct that if I ever think that my level is 100% correct, something is wrong with my head.
It doesn’t give me growing space."

Anju Rupal about SHIFT IN CONSUMERISM

”We can't carry on the way we are, depleting the resources of our planet just for profit.
It never made sense to me.
It took me a lot of courage to do what I am doing with Abhati.
I realized that it's not a quick fix.
It takes time.
But I think there is definitely a shift in consumerism,
where through the internet and social media,
we are looking to see provenance and transparency in brands.
And I think the all way that we are moving, you cannot build a business without that.
You cannot build a business without being able to lift up the curtain seeing what's happening behind it. ”
