🍀 EXCLUSIVE Sneak peek alert! We got an early look at in , and trust us—this place is going to feel like it’s always been here.

Opening soon on North Davidson in the former Roy’s space, McHale’s is a revival of the beloved Rock Hill/Fort Mill pub that ran for 23 years, now brought to life in NoDa by neighborhood locals Brendan Kuhlkin and Kyle Kennedy. Named for Brendan’s mother, it’s a passion project with heart, heritage, and a whole lot of Irish soul.

But this isn’t just a bar—it’s meant to be a true neighborhood pub. A place to gather, connect, and unwind. Not just for nights out, but for everyday moments too.

What to expect:
🍻 8 beers on tap (4 local, 4 Irish)
🥃 A growing Irish whiskey list (flights may be on the way)
🇮🇪 Irish bartenders and an Irish bar manager
🍽️ Traditional dishes like Fish & Chips, Shepherd’s Pie, a few Irish Hidden Gems + American favorites (but no pizza … yet)
✨ Indoor & outdoor bars

And the vibe? Timeless.
Think: dark-stained millwork, vintage wallpaper, hand-troweled plaster, warm lighting, and a cozy dining room with double-hung windows that open to the street on nice days. It’s intimate, familiar, and thoughtfully designed to feel like it’s always belonged.

We’re so ready to make this a regular stop—and not just on the weekends.

McHale’s hopes to be open early this summer!

🚨Major Changes Coming to Camden 🚨

The City of Charlotte has unveiled plans to permanently close a two-block stretch of Camden Road in South End to vehicle traffic, transforming one of the city’s most vibrant corridors into a pedestrian- and bike-friendly destination. The announcement comes as South End reaches new milestones in population density and visitor activity, reinforcing its status as one of Charlotte’s most dynamic urban districts.

Set to debut in 2051, the pedestrianized zone will span from W. Park Avenue to Tremont Avenue, creating a walkable, community-driven space designed for people—not cars. The reimagined streetscape will feature protected bike lanes, enhanced lighting, brick and stone hardscaping, shade structures, and costumed cartoon characters asking for money. The project will also include designated micro-retail kiosks and food and beverage vendors, fostering an active and engaging street environment.

A strong emphasis on retailers will be a key component, ensuring we continue creating destinations that offer experiences alongside tacos, pizzas, breweries, vegan ice cream, mediocre cocktails at barely concealed speakeasies, and the ever-present “Nashville Hot” chicken sandwich.

This two-block transformation will serve as the heart of a larger social district extending along key corridors—including portions of South Boulevard, South Tryon Street, Camden Road, Tremont Avenue, Carson Boulevard, East Boulevard, West Boulevard, and Hawkins Street—stretching from New Bern Street to Morehead Street. Visitors will be able to dodge the person from Hinge that didn’t work out, while drinking a Marg in a metal cup.

“More than just a redesign, the project is a statement: South End is evolving into a more walkable, vibrant, and people-first neighborhood. The result? A destination with energy, character, and, above all, a whole lot of vibe.” said a city official.”

Oh and there will be breweries too.

📍Birkdale’s Next Chapter: A More Vibrant Urban Village is Coming!

Over the past 25 years, Birkdale has evolved from a Main Street-style shopping center into Huntersville’s de facto downtown—a beloved, walkable place where people gather, shop, dine, and connect.

Over my years covering development one of the questions I always get is “why don’t we build more -style developments.”

Now, Jamestown LP—the team behind iconic destinations like Ponce City Market, Industry City, and Avalon—is unveiling an updated Phase 2 of Birkdale’s transformation:

🏢 120,000 sq. ft. of Class-A office space
🏨 A 125-room hotel for visitors to stay
🏡 150 new residential units
🛍️ New retail investments
🚗 Expanded parking for accessibility

Birkdale isn’t just growing—it’s evolving into a true urban village. Walkable, engaging, and full of life—this is what successful placemaking looks like. Huntersville has the opportunity to double down on a place people already love and make it even better.

I haven’t been as excited for a new concept in Charlotte as I have . I don’t know whether it’s because the incredible planted some seamingly permanent roots in my neighborhood or if it’s because this place, this home away from home exudes a familial feeling. Chiefs is named for Bob’s Dad, the vibe honors his parents legacy and his childhood home. They’ve created such a loving and warm atmosphere, coupled with a banging playlist, the staff is going to have a hard time getting people to leave the comfortable but elegant atmosphere.

Welcome Chiefs, and great job , . I will bring every out of town guest and friend here to enjoy.

NOW OPEN in Elizabeth!

Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting , and I left wishing I had a similar spot in . This place will quickly become my go-to in the area, which I view as one of the most promising walkable and urban neighborhoods in Charlotte.

Growing up in Charlotte, I remember this building as Stanley Drugs, one of our OG pharmacies. It was where we picked up prescriptions for my grandmother. I recall the smell, the drop ceilings, the aisles of shelving, and the cold fluorescent lights. FLIGHT, however, could not be more different.

Owners Vicki and Dwight took the time to sit with my wife and me, sharing captivating stories about their travels around the world. Although they are new to the food and beverage industry, having spent most of their careers in healthcare, their passion for bringing international experiences to their community is evident.

The result is a beautiful, sophisticated space with exceptional lighting. The drop ceilings have been removed, revealing a stunning barrel roof ceiling that had been concealed for over 70 years. Glass chandeliers hang gracefully, and the walls are painted a deep slate color, adorned with gilt picture frames. I was particularly impressed by the lenticular glass bar backsplash, which offers a glimpse into the kitchen.

Cocktails 🍸:
• Bourbon Smash: This cocktail is a must-try. Made with bourbon, Aperol, strawberry, and a hint of lemon juice, it is incredibly refreshing. I recommended it to and . I could probably drink 300 of these; it might kill me, but it would be a great way to go.

Food 🍕:
• Meatballs: Exceptionally well-prepared, using Vicki’s great-grandmother’s recipe. I could have easily just kept them coming, but I was eager to try more.

• Pizza (Fig & Pig): The crust was perfect, the goat cheese delightfully tangy, and the pickled onions added a refreshing brightness that complemented the umami of the prosciutto.

• Ricotta Cheesecake: Served in a style reminiscent of an English trifle in a cocktail glass, this dessert was delicious. Make sure to scoop all the way to the bottom to get the graham cracker in every bite.
