ter Pfeiffer, Peter Fischli & David Weiss, and Andreas Züst. With an output of up to 20 books per year, the publisher focuses mainly on photography, art and projects dealing with everyday and popular culture.

Geheimnisse im Innern – Michael Tummings künstlerische Arbeiten enthüllen das Wunderland der Anatomie und machen seine Geheimnisse sichtbar. Diese Visualisierung der Mysterien des Körpers und seine Erforschung im Zusammenhang mit chirurgischen Eingriffen eröffnet völlig neue Aspekte unserer physischen Existenz und der modernen Medizin. Die Ästhetik der Kunstfotografie bringt uns in engen Kontakt mit unseren «Reparatur bedürftigen» Organen und lässt uns die Schönheit unseres Körpers jenseits von analytischer, rationaler und «sezierender» Annäherung erahnen. «Medicus curat – natura sanat»: Der Arzt kuriert – die Natur heilt. Diese Blicke über die Schultern der Chirurg:innen beweisen nicht nur deren Können und den technologischen Fortschritt, sondern führen uns auch vor Augen, wie wichtig die Verbundenheit mit unserem Körper im Kampf gegen Krankheiten oder auch bei Präventivmassnahmen ist. In einer Zeit künstlicher Gelenke, Organteile und Implantate müssen wir diesen Wundern unserer Biologie und Natur unsere ganze Aufmerksamkeit schenken.

Human Insights“ by Michael Tummings

Secrets inside—the artwork of Michael Tummings discloses the wonderland of anatomy and brings secrets in sight. The visualisation of the body’s mysterium and its exploration in the framework of surgical procedures provides new perspectives onto our physical existence and modern medicine. The beauty of art photography opens our mind for an intimate contact with our organs “under repair” and allows a glimpse into the beauty of our physical nature beyond any analytical, rationale and dissecting approach. Medicus curat—natura sanat: the physician cures but the nature heals. These views over the surgeon’s shoulder may not only display the spectrum of surgical skill and technological progress but also remind us that being connected to our physis is an important element for fighting and even prevent- ing diseases. In an era of increasing availability of artificial joints, body implants and even partial artificial organs we have to cherish the wonder of our biology and nature.

It stares with bloodshot eyes, tentacles juddering. Another‘s thin membrane shows its brain bulging. Reptilian faces, canine heads, breaks or teezh sticking out. Warts, cyclops eyes, and impish grins abound. „Monsters in Suits“ caricatures leaders as grotesque monsters in suits.

Published in 2003. The radical artist‘s book „NON“ consists of 100 letter-sized drawings. With fragile lines, comments on the ways of the world. On a single sheet of letter paper, she can fit the whole world, a part of the solar system, and a little bit of politics.

„Schwarze Blätter“ by Andres Lutz

Since the late 1990s, when he isn’t immersed in his work as a visual artist (in collaboration with artist Anders Guggisberg) or stage performer (as Dr. Lüdi), Andres Lutz has been turning out a multitude of what he calls schwarze Blätter—“black sheets”. His white-on-black drawings are an odd mix of asceticism and playful whimsy. Usually without any preconceived plan, Lutz dips his pen in white ink and moves it across a blank black surface, which is also an imaginary space, a window at night, producing a crack of light in a stretched black canvas, like a slit made by a cutter.

The white line adds something to the world that wasn’t there ten seconds before: this is the essential magic of the drawing process. These are bona fide visual jokes, to be sure, but they’re also—at least in intention—refined little works of art, which can be freely or firmly divided up into categories or chapters, including cartoons, political and apolitical caricatures, picture puns and puzzles, rebuses and brain teasers, secret pictures to be scrutinized and cherished. And then there are spidery childlike doodles, portraits of philosophers, design sketches of imaginary installation art and sculptures, for instance a series of skulls that are also vessels. What’s more, dreamscapes, cityscapes and various and sundry other landscapes, drawings on the subject of urban sprawl or tax evasion. Plus insects, as well as Neolithic petroglyphs from Karelia and cave-drawn bison from northern Spain. In addition, depictions of local and foreign customs, illustrations of recipes, esoteric courses, flowers and trees, trees and vegetables, bushes and ferns, animals belonging to the emperor, as Borges put it... And last but not least, psychedelic wimmelpictures teeming with hidden objects, whose discovery is a cosmic delight.

Dem Neuen treu. Neujahrshefte 2007–2025 / True to New. New Year’s Zines 2007–2025. by Anton Bruhin

«Health, happiness and money in the New Year.» These are Anton Bruhin’s New Year wishes for 2007 in his very first zine. Ever since he was a boy, he has loved putting together little A6-size zines. His stencil-printed Plim came out in 1969, followed by more zines at April Verlag, a publishing house that Bruhin and Hannes Bossert ran jointly from 1969 to 1972. Some thirty years later, in 1998, 40 zines were printed on a Brother fax machine under the title Vierhundertfünfundfünfzig-seelendorf Editionen. And his 2014 series Scheissegedichte (S**t Verses) featured word sequences, palindromes (ekle meteor—kroete melke), typewriter art and pixel portraits alongside drawings of electrical sockets with curlicue pig’s tails and scatological couplets, e.g. for a rather free rhyming translation:

S**t stinks and p**p steams, the Romans shat on wooden beams S**t’s formed by the ass and normed by Brussels’ brass. When the s**t hits the wall it doesn’t bounce back like a ball. S**t’s the talk of the town and soon gets renown.  Bruhin designed his New Year’s greetings as 24- to 32- page zines featuring samples of his current work. Over the years, they covered a wide range of different linguistic and pictorial themes, subjects and genres. Their childlike curiosity and pure zest for discovery make for a certain continuity and a connection between the various issues. The Neujahrshefte hold treasures from the extravagant cornucopia of his overflowing imagination and jubilation. —Susi Koltai

Last but not least „Malanka“. Ein Buch mit wundervoll winterlichen Fotografien, die vom gleichnamigen Folkloreritual handeln, das von ethnischen Rumän:innen im Westen der Ukraine gefeiert wird - und zwar am 14. Januar, dem alten Neujahr im julianischen Kalender. Im Grunde geht es darum, den Winter zu vertreiben und den Frühling zu beleben, ein altbekannter Brauch also, der genau deshalb an die Rückkehr der Persephone in der griechischen Mythologie erinnert. Die Ursprünge dieser leidenschaftlich ausgeführten Tradition sind weitgehend unbekannt. 2019 und 2020 besuchte Yelena Yemchuk die Ortschaft Krasnoilsk, um die hiesige Malanka zu fotografieren,wie alle Werke Yemchuks, ist „Malanka“ persönlich, feminin, surreal und von einer gewissen Magie umgeben. In ihren Arbeiten schafft sie stets oszillierende Zwischenwelten, in denen Fiktion und Realität verschwimmen.

Last but not least, „Malanka“. A book with wonderfully wintry photographs of the folklore ritual of the same name, which is celebrated by ethnic Romanians in western Ukraine - on January 14, the old New Year in the Julian calendar. Malanka is about driving out winter and stimulating spring into existence, an ancient custom reminiscent of Persephone’s return in Greek mythology. The origins of this passionate tradition are largely unknown. In 2019 and 2020, Yelena Yemchuk visited the village of Krasnoilsk to photograph the local Malanka, Like all bodies of work by Yemchuk, „Malanka“ is personal, feminine, surrealist, and touched by a spell. In her works, she always creates oscillating intermediate worlds in which fiction and reality become blurred.
