Behind the camera: meet the directors of KALARI KID 🎬
Maria Kaur Bedi and Satindar Singh Bedi Satindar Singh Bedi travelled three times to Kerala, India to make this film — their vision in action. Observing resilient, fearless and fierce women, who stand their ground and rule their space. Hopefully changing mindsets and freeing one's will, one by one, one at a time, in the world around us.

Eine kraftvolle Geschichte von Mut und unerschütterlichem Widerstandswillen, erzählt von Khuthala, einem begabten jungen Musiker, der mit der Wäscherei seiner Familie nichts zu tun haben will. Er träumt vom Jazz, von einem Leben, das von Musik geprägt ist, nicht von Seife und Dampf. Doch als die Apartheid-Regierung beginnt, gegen Geschäfte in schwarzem Besitz vorzugehen, und Khuthalas Vater verhaftet und brutal zusammengeschlagen wird, beginnt der Traum zu zerbrechen.

Das Publikum in Solothurn und die Jury war von diesem äußerst vielschichtigen und komplexen Film beeindruckt, der auf subtile Weise die Unterdrückung von Menschen anderer Hautfarbe im Kontext des Apartheid-Regimes in Südafrika darstellt.
