Where do you usually send your remittances to the Philippines from Switzerland?

I often ask myself the same questions, how much are the charges, is the exchange rate fair, and is it really worth it compared to other options? Sometimes the fees feel a little high, and it makes you think twice before sending.

These days, there are many options, from traditional money transfer counters like Western Union or Ria, to digital platforms such as Revolut, Remitly, Wise, or WorldRemit. Some prefer the speed and ease of online transfers, while others stick to tried-and-true services they’ve trusted for years.

But should it be money, so our families can buy what they want? Or a big balikbayan box filled with thoughtful items, treats, and little surprises?

At the end of the day, it all depends on the need and the moment. 💖 Whether it’s money or a balikbayan box, both are deeply meaningful when sent with the right intention — and the joy of giving from the heart.

The ber months have arrived, and you know what that means for us Filipinos — Christmas is just around the corner! 🎄 In the Philippines, the celebration starts as early as September 1. That’s when families begin setting up Christmas trees, lanterns, and lights, and when Christmas songs fill the air in shopping malls and on the radio. It always brings so much joy and excitement.

For those of us living abroad, like here in Switzerland, the ber months also mean thinking about how we can make the season special for our families back home. One of the most common questions we ask ourselves is: where do you usually send your remittances to the Philippines from Switzerland? Is it better to send money during the Christmas season, or should we go for the traditional balikbayan box instead?

This is a proud moment for Filipino literature on the global stage, with the Philippines as the Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair* 2025. Filipino literature is getting the spotlight at the very heart of the international literary scene.

Filipinos in Switzerland need not travel far to participate in this event. In Zofingen — a city with a rich cultural tradition — the Literaturtage festival will feature selected representatives from the Philippines.
