I've worked the iron ore mines out in the Pilbara for over 30 years. FIFO, 12 hour shifts, red dust in everything I own, sun that'll cook you by 10am. It's not a job for the soft, but it paid the mortgage and put my kids through school.
This year I noticed how quick it all got out of hand. Coles receipts creeping up every week, power bill jumped 25 percent after the rebates dropped off, petrol going back up July 1st when the excise cliff hits. Even on my swing, there was bugger all left at the end of the fortnight.
Started wondering what happens when my knees pack it in. Can't do this job till I'm 65 and my super's nowhere near where it should be.
Bloke on my crew told me about an Aussie AI investment platform. Said his brother-in-law had been on it a few months and it was actually working.
I put in $500. Didn't tell the missus. Three months later I paid off the credit card that had been dragging for two years, cleared the car finance, and put a few grand aside for the kids. First time in a long time we're actually ahead.
Not retiring tomorrow. But for the first time in years I'm not just surviving swing to swing.
