Over 600 young aspiring entrepreneurs of TEF2023 from and other African countries left in massive debts and frustration by the The Tony Elumelu Foundation despite signing and submitting notarized copies of THE TONY ELUMELU FOUNDATION SEED CAPITAL UNDERTAKING as supposed beneficiaries.
Far from just being disappointed for not being selected for Seed Capital... what doesn't make sense is the foundation requiring more than 700 to create bank accounts at UBA (could cost up to $300) and submit among other documents, the notarized disbursement undertaking (could cost up to $400) which clearly stated they were beneficiaries and the foundation wished to send them $5,000 only for about 80% of them to be dumped with zero explanations a month later.
These young people are crying and calling on Mr. Tony Elumelu, the foundation, their partners United Nations United Nations Development Programme, U.S. Department of State, European Commission, UBA Group, United States African Development Foundation, Google, giz Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Sèmè City, Sightsavers, International Committee of the Red Cross and all other stake holders to review and address this potentially scandalous situation as soon as possible.
We also call on others who give voices to the voiceless to look into the unfolding situation and help find appropriate solutions for these young people feeling cheated, scammed, frustrated, and some even considering su***de due to debts.
