PRIEST RELEASED AFTER MORE THAN 24 HOURS IN CAPTIVITY

There is some good news from Weh in Menchum Division of the North West Region.
The Parish Priest of St. Jerome Parish in Weh has been released this Saturday, September 5, 2026, after spending more than 24 hours in captivity.

His release has brought relief and joy to the local population, who are thanking God for his safe return. The circumstances surrounding his reported abduction and release are still unclear. The Church has also not yet issued an official statement.

The priest’s release is a relief for the Weh community, but questions remain about what happened during his time in captivity.

The incident also highlights the need for the safety of priests, religious leaders and other civilians working in communities.

For now, residents are welcoming the priest’s safe return and hoping such incidents do not happen again.

🚨Anglophone Armed Conflict:

So, Who Is Really Behind the Kidnappings in Anglophone Cameroon?

A reported kidnapping incident in Mangou, in Ndu Sub Division, Donga-Mantung Division in Cameroon's North West Region, is raising questions about the growing security challenges in conflict-hit communities.

According to reports, villagers allegedly captured a man identified as a Bororo militia leader after he reportedly kidnapped a resident recently. He was taken to palace around the , where authorities reportedly called for military assistance all in vain.

The situation later took another turn when armed members of the militia allegedly entered the palace at about 3:40 am, and freed their leader.

Before leaving, the man reportedly threatened to return with deadly consequences.

The incident raises questions about the different armed groups operating in the region and who may be behind some kidnapping cases.

For families facing kidnapping, however, the fear is real, regardless of who is responsible.

53-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Alleged Abuse of 2-Year-Old in East Region

A 53-year-old man was recently arrested in Patchenga, East Region, for allegedly abusing a two-year-three-month-old child.
The incident has left the child’s mother traumatised and the entire village in shock.

How can a grown man inflict such pain on an innocent child? Police have arrested the suspect and placed him in custody, pending further investigations.

Denizens demand justice for this child. Authorities must ensure the suspect faces the law if found guilty.

🚨 GENDARME ARRESTED OVER DEATH OF MOTO-TAXI DRIVER IN MAROUA

The death of a motorcycle taxi driver in Maroua has led to an arrest, following investigations into the circumstances surrounding his killing.

Yousoufa Wassili was reportedly found shot in the eye, with his body dumped in a watercourse and his motorcycle missing. He had earlier transported a passenger from Maroua to Petté. Investigations by the Petté Gendarmerie Brigade reportedly led to a gendarme, who allegedly confessed to the crime.

The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody in Maroua.

🚨 Nkometou: Armed Men Attack Charter Express Bus at Night

Passengers on a Charter Express bus travelling from Bangangte to Yaounde reportedly faced a terrifying attack late at night at Nkometou recently . According to reports, a woman who stepped out of the bus shortly after 11 p.m. was confronted by several men armed with machetes.

She reportedly ran back to the bus, while one of the attackers entered the vehicle and attempted to attack passengers.The passengers reportedly fought back, overpowering and subdued the assailant, while his accomplices fled.

The big question now is, How can travellers be better protected during night journeys along Cameroon’s highways?

IS THE RULING CPDM COMPLICIT IN CAMEROON’S FEMICIDE EPIDEMIC?

If Parliament can debate many issues while women are being killed, why is legislation against femicide allegedly being left on the table? That is the uncomfortable question raised by the Social Democratic Front, or SDF.

In a statement issued on August 27, the opposition party accused the CPDM-dominated National Assembly of refusing to examine bills proposed by SDF lawmakers to strengthen laws against femicide and infanticide.

The SDF says this silence amounts to political complicity. That is a serious accusation but it deserves public scrutiny. Cameroonians should demand answers: Were the bills formally submitted? Why have they not been debated? What is delaying action?

This issue should not be reduced to CPDM versus SDF. Women are dying, families are suffering, and five children can suddenly lose a mother while those who call themselves the People's Representatives behave as if it doesn't matter to them.

So here is the question for you: Is Parliament doing enough to protect women, or has politics become more important than saving lives?
