Mental Health and emotional Well-being!

As a survivor of a mental health condition, -Trauma and Depression, I was honoured by Local Youth Corner Cameroon to facilitate a session for 10 women and girls on Mental Health and emotional well-being under the program Support and Learning Session held in Bamenda at the LOYOC Regional Office at Mile 2 Nkwen, Directly Behind PMI.

To me, it was a privilege to share with these women and girls experiencing different mental health conditions brought by the crisis in the North West and South West Region and their personal life struggles.

Sharing my personal story of facing grief, blackmail, threats and attacks during the crisis as a grassroots field worker helped participants connect with the issues of trauma, depression, anxiety, and stress.

In an experience sharing session, Participants opened up about their own experiences with kidnapping, blackmailing, threats, physical attacks, and loss of loved ones. Together, we identified ways to promote self-care and care for others.

Key takeaways included:

√ Loving and caring for ourselves first.

√ Practicing healthy habits like eating well, exercising, and seeking mental help when needed.

√ Engaging in activities that bring joy and fulfillment.

√ Encouraging open communication with trusted individuals or institutions.

√ Seeking counseling and referring others to psychosocial support services.

My session ended with participants singing "It is Well, It is well" a song that brought relief, hope, and reassurance to all.

Thank you LOYOC team for such an opportunity to serve humanity.

It's a testament of Love, acceptance, acknowledgement, recognition and the change I bring to their community. With the smiles on their faces, they wished to see me again and again.

Everyone has a voice that resonates differently with others. Each person has a unique story that connects with some and remains unknown to others.

We've all walked our own journey, facing different experiences, lessons, and challenges. Many have overcome hurdles, while others are still navigating them.

Ultimately, we all strive for a happy and fulfilling life.

Don't Give Up. Keep walking your path!

Many people seek jobs, but few are willing to put in the effort.

I spoke with friends who own a cake shop and a restaurant, and they both face the same challenge- finding loyal staff who will commit to working for a year or more while learning business skills.

What possible reasons account for this challenge?

1. Being my own boss syndrome. Some employees feel they can start their own business after a few months of work.

2. Lack of patience. Many young people lack the patience to stay in one job or business for a year.

3. Online marketing. Some youths prefer online business opportunities over traditional employment.

4. Laziness. Young people avoid physically demanding tasks like cleaning and tidying like in the case of the restaurant and cake shop.

What are your experiences as a business owner or young person?

Are you willing to dedicate time and effort to a business?

Inbox me if you are based in Bamenda and can dedicate time to work in a restaurant or cake/pastries shop.

Empowering the minds, brains, and hands of women and girls is key to strengthening their financial stability, enhancing their dignity, and fostering self-reliance.

Often, it's our mindset that holds us back from making meaningful progress.

Look at me, three years ago, I faced a great loss when my young husband passed away. If I had a negative mindset, I might still be searching for answers, visiting traditional doctors, pointing acquisition fingers and dwelling on the past.

Instead, I chose to cry, mourn, trust God and then pick up my life. With faith and a positive attitude, I moved forward, focusing on healing and rebuilding my life.

A negative mind can fuel frustration, procrastination, jealousy, depression and leaves you stagnant.

But with the right mindset, women and girls can overcome any challenge and thrive.

By cultivating a positive and resilient mindset, women can unlock their full potential, build confidence, and achieve their goals.

It's time for women and girls to recognize their worth, silence their inner critics, and rise above limitations.

Empowered women and girls are not held back by their past, they are driven by their future.

Women and girls should understand that setbacks are opportunities for growth and that every challenge is a chance to learn and become stronger.

By embracing a growth mindset, we can break free from limitations and achieve greatness, regardless of the obstacles we have faced.
