Mental Health and emotional Well-being!
As a survivor of a mental health condition, -Trauma and Depression, I was honoured by Local Youth Corner Cameroon to facilitate a session for 10 women and girls on Mental Health and emotional well-being under the program Support and Learning Session held in Bamenda at the LOYOC Regional Office at Mile 2 Nkwen, Directly Behind PMI.
To me, it was a privilege to share with these women and girls experiencing different mental health conditions brought by the crisis in the North West and South West Region and their personal life struggles.
Sharing my personal story of facing grief, blackmail, threats and attacks during the crisis as a grassroots field worker helped participants connect with the issues of trauma, depression, anxiety, and stress.
In an experience sharing session, Participants opened up about their own experiences with kidnapping, blackmailing, threats, physical attacks, and loss of loved ones. Together, we identified ways to promote self-care and care for others.
Key takeaways included:
√ Loving and caring for ourselves first.
√ Practicing healthy habits like eating well, exercising, and seeking mental help when needed.
√ Engaging in activities that bring joy and fulfillment.
√ Encouraging open communication with trusted individuals or institutions.
√ Seeking counseling and referring others to psychosocial support services.
My session ended with participants singing "It is Well, It is well" a song that brought relief, hope, and reassurance to all.
Thank you LOYOC team for such an opportunity to serve humanity.
