Two soldiers have reportedly been killed following an ambush on an army convoy along the Buea-Muyuka road last night.

It is said that suspected separatist fighters attacked the convoy along the busy road, triggering an exchange of gunfire.

The attack reportedly resulted in the death of two soldiers, although details surrounding the incident, including the exact location and circumstances of the casualties, remain unclear.

The Buea-Muyuka corridor has previously witnessed security incidents linked to the ongoing armed conflict in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement confirming the reported casualties.

The Bishop of Buea, Mgr. Michael Bibi, has officially forgiven Rev. Fr. George Jingwa Nkeze and announced that the priest's formal reintegration into active priestly ministry will begin in the days ahead.

In a communiqué dated August 4, 2026, Bishop Bibi informed the faithful that he had responded to Fr. Nkeze's letter of apology, following the reconciliation process he had earlier announced between the priest, himself and the wider Diocese of Buea.

The Bishop attached his August 1 reply to Fr. Nkeze, confirming that he had accepted the priest's apology and granted him forgiveness.

"I have accepted your apology and forgiven you for failing to follow the directives established for the good of the Diocese," Bishop Bibi wrote. He further announced that "in the days ahead and through the appropriate diocesan steps," he would facilitate the process for Fr. Nkeze to obtain a Letter of Suitability, enabling him to continue in priestly ministry.

The Bishop also urged Fr. Nkeze to remain steadfast in prayer, obedience and love for the Church, encouraging him to faithfully uphold his vow of obedience while assuring him of his continued prayers and fatherly blessing.

The development marks a significant step toward restoring Fr. George Nkeze to active ministry after a period of reconciliation efforts within the Diocese of Buea.

Paul Biya Names Brigadier General Beko'o Abondo New Presidential Guard Commander

President Paul Biya has appointed Brigadier General Beko'o Abondo Raymond Jean Charles as the new Commander of Cameroon's Presidential Guard.

The appointment was made in a decree signed on August 3, 2026, with the officer taking up the position immediately.

The Presidential Guard is the elite unit tasked with protecting the Head of State and safeguarding key state institutions.

Cameroon's Indomitable Lionesses continued their impressive run at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ghana's Black Queens in their second Group D match.

Marie-Gisèle Ngah Manga scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 19th minute, giving the Lionesses an early lead they successfully defended until the final whistle.

FIFA has withdrawn its plan to sell a 20% stake in a new commercial entity after facing mounting opposition from football stakeholders, led by UEFA.

The proposed deal, valued at $20 billion, was expected to generate $4.2 billion by bringing in outside investors to help manage FIFA's major competitions, including the FIFA World Cup.

However, critics argued the move would commercialise the sport at the expense of its values. After days of backlash and threats of a boycott, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the proposal would not move forward, saying it had become too divisive.

The decision follows the resignation of senior FIFA adviser Carlos Cordeiro, who publicly described the investment proposal as "a bad deal for football."

Her Grace Sarah Mullally, Archbishop of Canterbury, arrived in Cameroon late Friday, July 31, for a five-day official visit aimed at promoting prayer, dialogue, and peace among Anglican Christian communities.

The Archbishop landed at Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport alongside a large delegation of religious leaders. She was received by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, representing the Head of State, in the presence of the British High Commissioner to Cameroon, leaders of the Anglican Church of Cameroon, and several civil and religious authorities.

The official welcome featured warm handshakes and the presentation of a bouquet of flowers before the delegation proceeded to the VIP lounge for brief exchanges.

Addressing the faithful who had gathered at the airport to welcome her, Archbishop Mullally said she was deeply honoured to be making her first-ever visit to Cameroon and the African continent.

During her stay, she is expected to visit Douala, Buea, and Limbe, where she will meet with religious leaders and members of the Anglican community. The visit will focus on prayer, dialogue, and encouraging Christians to continue fostering peace in Cameroon.

Separatist fighters operating in Cameroon's North West Region have claimed responsibility for an attack on government forces in Afua, a community in Boyo Division.

In a message circulated on social media, the armed group identifying itself as the Ambazonia State Army (ASA), also known as the "Boyo Pythons", alleged that two Cameroonian soldiers were killed during the operation and that two weapons were seized.

The group described the attack as a warning to government forces operating in the area.

Speaking to Christians in the Diocese of Buea, he said one of the factors contributing to the downfall of some priests and other members of the clergy is the conduct of some Christians.

Europe's football family has taken an unprecedented stand against FIFA, with UEFA and all 55 of its national associations unanimously rejecting plans that could allow private investors to acquire ownership interests in the FIFA World Cup and other FIFA competitions.

In a joint statement released on Thursday, UEFA warned that football's biggest tournament is a global public asset built over generations and should never become a commercial investment. The organisation accused FIFA of pursuing the proposal without proper consultation with its member associations.

UEFA also issued a stark warning, saying European national teams would refuse to take part in FIFA competitions if the governing body presses ahead with the plan.
