𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑪𝒂𝒏’𝒕 𝑩𝒖𝒆𝒂 𝑫𝒐 𝑩𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓? 𝑨 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕 𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆
Why does it feel like we’re stuck in a never-ending loop of trash-filled streets, unkempt roads, and broken streetlights? Why do we keep waiting for someone else—the municipak council, the authorities, the government—to make things better, only to be disappointed time and time again?
Buea, our beautiful city, is slowly drowning in its own neglect. Everywhere you turn, there’s garbage on the streets. The once beautiful roads are now a hazard, and don’t even get me started on the streetlights. How many of us have walked down a dark street, hoping for some light but ending up stumbling over potholes and debris? It’s painful to witness this happen year after year, especially when we know things could be better.
But here’s the thing—why is it always someone else’s responsibility? Why is it the municipal council’s fault when we too have a part to play? When was the last time any of us stopped to pick up trash from the ground, to avoid littering, to take responsibility for our community?
It’s easy to point fingers and blame the people in charge. And yes, they’ve failed us in so many ways. But the truth is, we as citizens also need to do better. If we don’t take pride in our city, how can we expect anyone else to? If we keep throwing trash on the roads, why should we be surprised when no one picks it up? If we walk past broken streetlights every day without raising our voices, can we really expect the lights to be fixed?
It’s time to ask ourselves: What can we do to make Buea a better place?
Maybe it’s organizing a simple clean-up drive in your neighborhood. Maybe it’s deciding to stop littering and encouraging others to do the same. Maybe it’s holding the city council accountable while holding ourselves accountable too.
But I wonder, why haven’t we seen bigger changes in Buea? Is it because we’re waiting for someone to give us permission to act? Why are we waiting for others to fix the mess when we too can start making small, meaningful changes?
The truth is, we all want to live in a cleaner, safer, and better Buea. But wanting it isn’t enough. We need to act. We need to show up, take responsibility, and demand that things improve—not just from the top, but from the bottom up. We, the people, have the power to make this city a place we can all be proud of.
So, Buea, it’s time for us to ask ourselves: What are we going to do about it? Because, honestly, the municipal council might not come through—but we can still start changing things, one small action at a time.
As we enter 2025, we hope things will be different. We hope more people will take responsibility, step up, and help make Buea the city it should be. It’s not just about waiting for someone else to act—it’s about us taking the first step together.
I’m asking for your thoughts, your ideas, your plans. What can we do as citizens to push for change? And what are you personally going to commit to doing to make Buea a better place?
Let’s not wait for the municipal council anymore. Let’s be the change we’ve been waiting for in 2025 and beyond. 💪
