PRESIDENT BIYA RETURNS TO YAOUNDE

President Paul Biya returned to Cameroon this evening after over 10 weeks abroad.

The 93-year-old arrived at Yaounde-Nsimalen Airport this Thursday evening from Geneva, where he had been since June 7 on what the Presidency called a "brief private stay in Europe."

His longest absence in 43 years in power, had sparked speculation about his health.

He was welcomed by CPDM supporters along the streets to the Unity Palace.

His first major activity is expected this weekend: an audience for the Indomitable Lionesses, who made history on Sunday in Morocco by winning Cameroon's first ever Women's AFCON title, beating Malawi 3-0 in the final after knocking out Nigeria and hosts Morocco.

Cameroon Crowned WAFCON Champions
Cameroon have been crowned champions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), completing a remarkable journey to continental glory.

What makes the achievement even more historic is that Cameroon were initially didn't qualify for the tournament. However, following the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to increase the number of participating teams from 12 to 14, Cameroon earned their place in the competition.

Even the Algeria that eliminated Cameroon in the qualifying stage only managed to take the 3rd position.

The Indomitable Lionesses seized the opportunity and went all the way, lifting the WAFCON trophy and making history.
What a moment for Cameroon! From being initially left out to becoming African champions, the Lionesses have shown resilience, determination and fighting spirit.
History has been made. Congratulations, Indomitable Lionesses! Roar on, Cameroon, and roar all the way to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027!

The youth of Tiko took to the streets to protest against the growing rate of juvenile delinquency in the community. Carrying placards with bold messages, they condemned crimes such as drug abuse, r**e, sexual abuse, theft, gang violence, and other forms of criminal behavior that are increasingly becoming rampant in society.
The protesters expressed concern over the negative impact these acts are having on young people and the future of the community. They called on parents, community leaders, schools, and authorities to work together to address the problem and guide the younger generation toward positive values.

Their message was clear: Say No to Drug Abuse, R**e, Sexual Abuse, Theft, Gang Violence, and All Forms of Juvenile Delinquency.

Buea Council Orders Market Closure July 27 for Late Chief Monono’s Funeral.

The Buea Council has announced a temporary closure of Great Soppo Market and the road stretching from Executive Hotel to Pala Field on Saturday, July 27, 2026, from 6:00am to 6:00pm. According to a radio announcement request dated June 25, 2026, signed by the 4th Deputy Mayor on behalf of Lord Mayor David Mafani Namange, the shutdown is to honor HRM Chief Emmanuel Etina Monono, the late 2nd Class monarch of Great Soppo who passed away on May 7, 2026 after a brief illness. The council says the closure will allow residents, traders, and well-wishers to turn out massively and pay their last respects to the traditional ruler.

Lord Mayor Namange, acting on a request from the Secretary General of the Great Soppo Traditional Council, has asked local media houses including CRTV Buea, CBS Radio, and Dream FM to broadcast the notice repeatedly. Traders and denizens operating in the affected market and road corridor are urged to comply and cooperate with council officials. The council expressed appreciation in advance for public understanding, noting that the gesture is meant to give Chief Monono “the honour he deserves” during his funeral celebration.
