WHO Honors Cameroon’s Health Minister for Contribution to Executive Board 2023-2026

GENEVA — The World Health Organization awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie, on Monday, May 25, 2026, recognizing Cameroon’s contribution to the work of the WHO Executive Board during the 2023-2026 term.

The certificate was presented at WHO headquarters in Geneva by Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the end of the Board’s 158th session. The award acknowledges Cameroon’s role in shaping strategic discussions on global health challenges.

During the mandate, Dr. Manaouda served as Third Vice-President of the Executive Board and consistently represented African concerns on key issues including health system strengthening, universal health coverage, emergency preparedness, and sustainable health financing. Cameroon participated actively in sessions and contributed to global responses to contemporary health challenges.

The ceremony took place in the Executive Board room. As Dr. Manaouda had concluded his official mission in Geneva the previous week, the certificate was received by a member of the Cameroonian delegation still present on site.

Officials said the recognition highlights Cameroon’s growing influence in global health governance and its role as a reliable advocate for more equitable and solidarity-based health systems.

DRC Leopards Cancel Kinshasa Camp Over Ebola Concerns, Will Prepare in Europe for U.S. Trip

KINSHASA — The Democratic Republic of Congo’s football federation, FECOFA, has cancelled the Leopards’ planned training camp in Kinshasa and moved preparations to Europe due to the ongoing Ebola outbreak.

In a videoconference with FIFA, FECOFA assured world football’s governing body that the national team will strictly follow all health protocols before traveling to the United States. The change aims to meet sanitary requirements for entry into the U.S.

As a result of the schedule shift, tickets purchased by supporters for the Kinshasa leg will be fully refunded. Fans who can no longer travel to the U.S. for the matches will also receive a complete refund.

The Leopards are set to continue training in Europe ahead of their upcoming fixtures on American soil. FECOFA did not specify which matches are affected in the statement.

The executive team comprises 22 ministers and three ministers delegated to the presidency. Key appointments include:

Iran: Nuclear Issue Not Part of Current US Talks

TEHRAN — Iran’s Foreign Ministry said May 24, 2026, that nuclear issues are not being discussed in current negotiations with the US, which are focused on ending the war.

Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told IRNA that talks center on a ceasefire, with nuclear issues and sanctions relief to be addressed later under a proposed 14-point memorandum of understanding.

Baghaei warned that pushing nuclear details now would prevent a deal, calling US demands “unreasonable”. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said “some progress” had been made but reiterated Washington opposes Iran having a nuclear weapon.

The negotiations follow a ceasefire on April 8, 2026, after 40 days of fighting between the US, Israel, and Iran.

Cameroon’s President Biya Congratulates ENAM Students for Role in May 20 Celebrations

YAOUNDÉ — President Paul Biya has commended students of the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM) for their participation in Cameroon’s May 20 National Day parade.

In a communique dated May 20, 2026, addressed to the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reform, Biya praised the civil servant-students for taking part “in order and discipline” in the march along Boulevard du 20 Mai. The parade marked the 54th anniversary of the advent of Cameroon’s unitary state.

The president said their participation demonstrated civic spirit and attachment to the Republic’s institutions.

“At this moment of strengthening patriotic sentiment, I ask you to convey my sincere congratulations for their commitment to serve our dear and beautiful country with competence and integrity,” the communique stated.

May 20 is observed annually as Cameroon’s National Day, commemorating the 1972 referendum that established the unitary state.
