Cameroon’s Monument of Unity 🇨🇲

Home of the Indomitable Lions.

It is strategically located at the Mont Fébé intersection along Avenue de l’Unité, near both the Bastos Roundabout and the Unity Palace Roundabout.

The Unity Monument stands as a powerful symbol of Cameroon’s unification. Positioned along the road leading to the Unity Palace, this striking landmark is deeply rooted in the nation’s history and draws visitors for both its cultural significance and commanding presence.

Erected in 2021, designed and constructed by a Turkish company, the monument was officially inaugurated on September 17, 2021.

The site is ideal for historical walks, photography, and guided tours, especially during official events or as part of tourist circuits. Open to visitors of all ages, it offers a welcoming space for educational family outings or quiet personal exploration. Best of all, access is completely free, making it an inclusive cultural destination.

Visitors often praise the monument for its symbolic importance, architectural elegance, and serene atmosphere. It remains a must-see for anyone exploring Yaoundé and seeking a deeper connection to Cameroon’s history.

Crowning the structure are ten lions, each representing one of Cameroon’s ten regions. Together, they stand as a powerful symbol of national unity and cohesion.

The golden star on the top of the central pillar symbolizes the star on Cameroon’s national flag. 🇨🇲

Since gaining independence in 1990, Namibia has continued to shape its own destiny, stepping confidently into a new era of leadership and progress.

The nation celebrates its hard, won independence from South African rule, which was achieved on March 21, 1990.

Independence Day is celebrated with the theme "One Namibia, One Nation," emphasizing unity across diverse cultural backgrounds.

The day represents a transition into new eras of leadership and a focus on building a future based on innovation and prosperity.

Douala, Cameroon 🇨🇲 ✨

Many of you may have passed by this place or seen this sculpture before without truly knowing its story or what it represents.

It is called La Nouvelle Liberté (“The New Liberty”), a renowned 12-meter (39 ft) monumental sculpture located at the Deïdo roundabout in Douala, Cameroon.

Created in 1996 by Cameroonian artist Joseph-Francis Sumégné, the piece is constructed entirely from recycled industrial and automotive parts, weighing approximately 8 tons.

More than just a sculpture, it symbolizes the resilience, creativity, and resourcefulness of the people of Douala, paying homage to the local culture of se débrouiller (getting by).

Standing at one of the city’s busiest intersections, it connects the neighborhoods of Akwa, Deïdo, and Bonabéri.

Today, it has evolved into a vibrant gathering point for artists, musicians, and visitors alike.. a powerful testament to contemporary Cameroonian art in the nation’s economic capital.

My heart truly goes out to you. You have carried a lot of pain since childhood, and no child deserves to be rejected simply because of their gender.

The love and care you received from your grandmother shows that family is not only about who gives birth to us, but also about who chooses to stand by us and raise us with love.

Your father’s actions hurt you deeply, and it is understandable that you feel conflicted now that he wants to see you.

Forgiveness is not easy, and it cannot be forced. Take your time and decide what will bring peace to your own heart, not what others expect from you.

If you feel ready, you may visit him and listen to what he has to say, not because he deserves it, but because sometimes forgiveness frees the person who was hurt the most.

However, if you are not emotionally ready, that is also valid. Your healing matters.

At the same time, this story should be a lesson to parents everywhere: a child is a blessing, whether boy or girl. Rejecting a daughter simply because she is female is not only unjust, it can destroy relationships that can never be fully repaired.

Daughters grow up to become strong women, caregivers, leaders, and the very people who may stand by their parents in old age.

Parents should remember that children do not choose their gender. What they deserve is love, protection, and equal opportunity.

When we value all children equally, we build stronger families and a kinder society.

To you, I would say: protect your heart, seek peace, and make the decision that allows you to move forward without bitterness.

Ndebele attire from South Africa 🇿🇦 😮

The Southern Ndebele people, primarily located in South Africa's Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces, are known for this distinctive visual expression. Traditional attire is significant in Ndebele culture, often indicating a woman's social status.

The attire features intricate beadwork and vibrant geometric designs that reflect cultural motifs similar to those used in traditional Ndebele house painting.

These precision crafted patterns can encode specific color schemes and meanings unique to a family or particular occasion. This style of dress is central to significant cultural events, such as the Idwendwe Nobukhazi (wedding) ceremony.

Modern interpretations of these designs are also common in contemporary South African fashion.

Imagine staying in a giant bird’s nest in the middle of the desert.🥰

That’s exactly the experience offered by The Nest, a secluded holiday lodge in the Namib Desert designed by South African designer Porky Hefer.

The architecture is inspired by the intricate, labyrinth-like nests of local sociable weaver birds.

The lodge was hand crafted by local artisans using organic materials like reeds and straw, designed to blend seamlessly into the desert landscape.

It is a completely off-grid structure, utilizing solar power for energy.
The lodge features three en-suite bedrooms and a sunken living lounge.

Looking at it already feels so peaceful. If wishes were horses, I’d gladly lodge here until further notice.😁

Let’s be honest, many children grow up hearing only one side of the story about their fathers. In some cases, the fathers are labeled as deadbeats when that may not be the full truth.

Sometimes conflicts between parents lead to situations where a father is pushed away, and the children are made to believe he simply chose to abandon them. Over time, this can create resentment and distance between fathers and their kids.
