"The Mentor Who Saw What I Couldn't"
There was a season when I thought growth meant hustling harder, creating more, and never slowing down. But then I discovered something life-changing: MENTORSHIP
A mentor doesn’t need to be in your field.
They only need the ability to see where you are now,
the courage to show you where you could be,
and the wisdom to bridge that gap.
The best mentors don’t just give advice.
- They ask hard questions.
- They hold you accountable.
- They challenge your limits.
- They equip you with frameworks that accelerate your growth.
My mentor, H.E. Dr E. Paul Mbuagbor, is not a designer.
Yet he taught me to:
- Scope projects with precision
- Price my work with confidence
- Say “No” without guilt
- Lead with character, excellence, and strong presentation
- Build influence through integrity, not popularity
- Communicate my value clearly in every room I enter
- Think like a problem-solver, not just a creator
- Live with principles that outlast trends
One statement he told me that still shapes my work today:
“Jeff, always pay attention to details, my friend.”
while hitting my head with his phone, "painful"
From my journey, I’ve learned three key truths:
* Clarity beats comfort – Growth demands vision.
* Feedback is fuel – Don’t fear correction; embrace it.
* Relationships build legacy – not transactions.
Fellow Creatives, if you want to accelerate your growth, find someone who believes in your future more than your excuses, someone who sees not just your work, but your potential.
Who is guiding your creative journey?
